Just to let you all know, I plan to take the site down for around 30 minutes in order to do a complete and total backup once a week, likely around 3 or 4 Am on Sunday mornings.  I also plan to do one tonight, wed. the 27th to get started.  To date I’ve been backing up the database nightly, but this will be a snapshot of the whole domain, blog, files, settings, forum, the whole shebang.

Finally figured out how to automate the whole fricking thing and save it off-site.  I’ve been doing it manually since the last great crash.  :)

rsnapshot is a very nice way to get snapshot backups.  And it’s free.  You could sync to off-site.

That is, if you are running Linux on both ends...and you should be!

3-4AM on Sundays?!?!  Maaaaaaan, that’s when I’m at the PEAK of my creativity!

Just kidding.  At that time I usually snort once and roll over because my wife puts her cold feet on my shins.

In space, no one can hear your German techno music.

Yes, that is one of the benefits of space, but this is clearly not a German techno club.

I find Bran Flakes for breakfast, and some prunes and dates helps out when I’m backing up. Also, coffee. Enema form is optional.

TMI!

Back-up is good, automated backup is even better.
Oddly enough, that was what I was doing all day today for work. Thanks JimK.

I’ll bet they have serious backing up problems in Turkish prisons. Not that I’ve been to one.

Wow…

Why did you have to go and bring this post back up?

I believe it is called necro-posting (bringing old threads back to the top via a response… on some forums, doing too much of that was a good way of getting you banned.. lol).

I think just doing it once should be enough.

It’s only necro if it’s intentional.. if a thread catches my eye, I’ll read it and possibly post my 2 cents worth.....
