You seem to think that my one-diminsional thought is - AmeriKKKa raped the world and polluted the environment and got really rich and screwed everyone else because of globalisation and now climate change, but the good news is that pique oil is coming to punish America and free the rest of the world from its tyranny. And your shtick is basically winking at this idea is a knowing way. “I’ve heard the same thing for thirty years. Death to America. Let’s all get around the campfire and sing songs of unity with your Euro bruvas. Where’s Bono.”
But I don’t hate America. American democracy is the greatest political system ever invented, and the growth of America over two centuries has been extraordinary and long may it continue. Give me America, the global superpower, over China or Russia any day. And I wouldn’t want to change its laws or constitution. I simply think that the circumstance of several colliding crisis (energy, climate, the dollar) present a massive risk to America and the rest of the world. I hope they succeed. Kind of like WWII in a way. That was a massive threat to America and the free world, but you banded together and kicked ass and thank God you did or I’d be speaking Japanese now. I think America needs to band together to get off oil. You think that by saying that I want to attack American values, but I think it’s the best way to guarantee that they survive, because the trajectory that the American economy is travelling is not sustainable.
I know that a lot of people like to complain about America, and it kind of annoys me, more so now then ever because people on this site have made me aware of it. I was listening to this guy give a talk on climate change at the London School of Economics and he made a couple of cheap jokes at the expense of Bush and America and I kind of winced. It was so off-target, unnecessary and unhelpful. Kind of like your cheap jokes at my expense.
I don’t know why, but for some reason, there seems to be an inability or unwillingness on your part to see the difference between what I say (regardless of how dull or smug or unworthy of your razor sharp satirical eye it is) and what you think I mean.
Sure, I’m another ILA. Thats about biting a retort as Ami. But,yeah, I always resort to lame name-calling when I’m cornered by superior intellect.
So when are you going to answer any questions?
I’m not obsessively green, but I do my best. I don’t drive much, but it helps that I live close to work, etc. I recycle and turn lights off. I use reusable shopping bags… except when I leave them at home. If you and I cut our carbon emissions it would just be cheaper for someone in China to emit more. I’m also not at all politically active. I don’t belong to any proactive organisations. Like anyone else, the thing that would really make me change my lifestyle would be a huge hike in oil prices and the resulting inflation. Last week, I picked up a block of cheese at the supermarket and saw that it was $18. I put it back.
I’d be a bit more forthcoming if any of this information shed any light on anything I’ve ever said here.
Same old biafra. He invited me to the same pissing contest a few years back. I politely declined.
r.j. have you seen U23D yet? I saw it on the weekend - it’s pretty amazing. Highly recommended. Although it did give me weird dreams. Not I’ve-just-eaten-an-$18-block-of-cheese-before-I-went-to-sleep weird-ass dream, but close.
For the record, I’ve had Biafra on “ignore” for about 6 months now. It’s raised my enjoyment of the forums.
I found almost nothing worth reading in his posts, and almost nothing worth responding too. The occasional nugget that was in there wasn’t worth picking through the crap the other 99% of the time.
I wonder what Tripper would say about this whole thread? I put him on “ignore” about 3 months ago and have been having a great time on moorewatch ever since…
r.j.
Dude, you may have recently had your head opened, but that doesn’t give you permission to be an a$$hole.
Assuming that I accepted your premise (which I don’t), that’s what’s great about a free (or freer, as the case might be) society. You don’t need permission to be an a$$hole...
This is not a free society, it’s a forum with its own internal rules of conduct. So if someone comes along like ILA and decides to be a dick, the administrators are perfectly within their rights to ban him. Now, I don’t think anyone who regularly posts here should be banned, and even if I did I don’t make the rules. But it’s worth remembering from time to time, when things get a little heated, that there are some things that are acceptable and some that aren’t. 99% of the time Biafra is perfectly acceptable to me (if a little annoying). Those were all the times that I didn’t bite back.

I’m gonna put everyone on ignore and then just treat this board like my own personal blog.

Michael Moore , Barack Obama and others would surely disapprove of your impatience with dissenting views.

I said theres nothing wrong with that. I take issue with it being called “going green”. This is green:
Thing is when oil becomes worthless, its sellers will become even more poorer. And more violent.

“If this or that had not happened, we would all be speaking German right now.” What a dumb statement. The Germans lost and they are not speaking English right now. Same goes for Japan.
Sorry, r.j. it still looks like you’re in Thinker territory:
Mugabe was quoted as saying “This Hitler has only one objective: justice for his people, sovereignty for his people, recognition of the independence of his people and their rights over their resources. If that is Hitler, then let me be a Hitler tenfold.
Departing from his text, at the celebration of the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s 60th anniversary, [Mugabe] accused Mr Bush and Mr Blair of illegally invading Iraq and looking to unseat other governments.
“Must we allow these men, the two unholy men of our millennium, who in the same way as Hitler and Mussolini formed [an] unholy alliance, formed an alliance to attack an innocent country?” he said.
“Is this the world we desire? The world of giants and international terrorists who use their state muscle in order to intimidate us? We become the midgets,” he said.
While he received applause from some delegates in Rome, his speech was condemned by Mr Blair. “Nothing that Mr Mugabe says surprises us or will deflect us from our view of what is going on in Zimbabwe, which is far from a laughing matter,” Mr Blair’s spokesman said.
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez turned his speech into a tirade against “the north American empire” which is threatening ”all life on the planet” through pollution and climate-change problems.
This is the circular, wholly unoriginal rote thought you offer. Theres no way this Ami is ever gonna do what you want just to meet your cute wiw checklist of what constitutes a “friend”. Deeds still speak louder than words, and yer reciting yer love poem throughout cyberspace doesn’t cut it, not by a long shot.
A New York Post survey of readers sampling nearly 20,000 people ranks Bill Clinton second to Adolf Hitler as the most evil person of the millennium.
Hitler received 8.67 percent, or 1,664 votes, and Clinton received 8.47 percent, or 1,625, placing him well above mass-murdering Soviet leader Josef Stalin, who got 6.69 percent, or 1,284 votes.
What makes the president’s appearance on the survey more astonishing is respondents had to write his name in, while Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Dr. Josef Mengele and others were listed on the survey. First lady Hillary Clinton came in sixth on the survey, with 3.99 percent and 765 votes—all write-ins.
Others on the list included Saddam Hussein, Charles Manson, Idi Amin, Genghis Khan, Jeffrey Dahmer, Benito Mussolini, Ayatollah Khomeini, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Ivan the Terrible, Fidel Castro, Vlad the Impaler, Timothy McVeigh and Marquis de Sade.

. What I find is that if I read through a thread and start skipping posts I quickly lose the thread (as it were) of where the conservation is going. Except with you, Jabba, of course.
There is no conversation.
Why don’t you look back thru all the backthreads and count all the ones you’ve posted that no one even responds to.
The interweb equivalent of “my dad’s stronger than your dad...”

I’ve been ignoring this thread. :)
So, if anyone is out of line, someone should PM me because I’ve got better things to do than read it… like watch paint dry… or something…

Technically, he may be responding to himself (he’s got 5 in a row up above).
r.j. got more “responses”. He wins, he wins, nynananana. He’s gotta be right about peak oil, too, see.
What conceited boor. Unbelievable.
Now that I’m back I to work (and already looking forward to that umbrella drink vacation I so readily earned) I too have better things to do than gaze in rapt wonder r.j.’s inccesant auto-fellatio.

Anytime. I’ll admit Michael Moore is my inspiration, as he is the Master at it. Just look at the masses fawning at his crotch for even the smallest glimpse of his foreskin, pummeled senseless for 8 long years, now set to join millions of citizens and stagger into the voting booth come November, like a boxer in the 12th round, all bloodied and bruised with one eye swollen shut, looking for the only thing that matters—that big “D” on the ballot. D’ozone, namely.
Richard Gere, who opposes China’s handling of Tibet, has appeared at demonstrations and favors a boycott.
Money/Fortune reported Steven Spielberg resigned as an artistic adviser to the summer games because of China’s economic, political and military ties to the Sudan.
A number of world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, have said they will not attend the opening ceremonies in Beijing.
A handful of senators, including presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, sent President Bush a letter urging him not to attend the opening ceremonies, saying that “if the Chinese government is ever to treat its people with basic human rights, it must be sent a bold and clear message.”
Having done everything they possibly can to resolutely and peacefully resolve all human rights issues globally, modest champions like Gere and Spielberg boldly take a private chopper (to beat traffic the more ordinary proles cause) out to their cushy digs in the Hamptons to unwind.
As irony would have it, a show about the Hamptons was just on last night.
