Most people on this board, regardless of political affiliation, tend to have at least a couple of value systems which run contrary to their outward ideology. You don’t, so you don’t have balance. This puts you in the more extreme end of right-wing.
I disagree with Bush on the issues of border security and illegal immigrants.
This is a highly extreme belief, and can be construed as ‘nutball’. No wonder you don’t want this counted.
You cannot deny there are documented cases of cured homosexuals.
According to you, the reason you were marked down on an essay on the merits or otherwise of drilling Alaska was because your tutor was biased against you. The tutor’s reasons were that you’d poorly researched your essay and had little to substantiate your argument. You never presented your essay to us so we can only speculate as to its quality, but given your usual thorough research and tolerant attitude to anything not like you, we can make an educated guess as to whose reasons for your low mark were better.
I’m an English major, and I know this is very cocky sounding, but I get high scores on almost all essays I turn in. This was definitely a case of bias, the guy was like having ILa for a prof.

Unfortunatly for the point you are trying to make, those are the two positions Bush has that are left-wing.
Despite my displeasure with Bush on border security and illegal immigration, I’m not a right-wing nut-job because I also disagreed with him on those enormous farm subsidies.

Big fucking whoop, so am I. And yet somehow you appear to either be staggeringly naive or just plain ignorant. I was always under the impression that literature helped broaden the mind as opposed to closing it..
Come on then. Show us your essay. We’ll soon see what’s what.
I do not think you are a nut Soul.
I think you are young and possibly ignorant of a few things (as was I at that age).
Come on, orange chicken is better than General Tso’s? And you didn’t even wish me a happy birthday.
Deus and Dr GONZO and maybe some others are aberrations because they have no right to be so smart at that age. :-)
I leave you with:
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt.

Sorry, but that’s not information I’m willing to post on the internet, or to e-mail you.
Just envision ILA as my prof, and me writing an essay for him. Or Dansen. Or the other way around if you like
We could try to sum it up from what we know about Soul.
We should drill ANWR! It’s only because of the stupid environazis that are worried about seals, and racist against the black eskimos who just want to get out from under the man! Not to mention the gays who can’t love anyway because of their severe mental disorders.

I wouldn’t call you a nutjob (in the way that I think ILA is a nutjob), I just think you are immature and naive.
The thing is, it’s ok to be ignorant of something or to be naive, no one is an expert on everything, no one has firsthand knowledge of everything, the key is that you recognize it and are teachable when someone more knowledgeable on the subject corrects you, offers you more information or offers a different perspective on a given set of facts.
I think a problem that a lot of people have with you is that you aren’t teachable. You have opinions which are sometimes based on false information or illogical conclusions and when someone tries to engage you and correct your false information or offer another point of view, you get snotty and defensive (granted, this could be lately because of some of the ganging up that happens with you, I honestly can’t remember if there was a time when you didn’t used to do it or if it may have gotten worse as a reaction to the extra, sometimes unwarrented, scrutiny).
What’s the point in discussing anything if you are not willing to listen to what the other person you’re talking to has to say? That’s not to say that you have to change your opinions, just that you need to recognize what is fact and what isn’t and stop trying to argue facts that don’t fit into your preconceived ideas.
If I’m talking to someone who disagrees with my beliefs and they correct something I am saying, I don’t give up and say “Ok, you’re right, I am going to change my entire belief system”, I just take the comment to heart, try to look objectively to see if there is flaw in my argument and if so, try to fix it. If I can’t logically correct this flaw, then I should rethink my opinion. For me, this sort of introspection has made me more confident in a lot of my beliefs —by justifying my beliefs to myself I am able to convince myself that they are really truly right for me.
But anyway, the point is that from my perspective you come across as though you are afraid to ever concede a point to someone because you are afraid to admit you were wrong. Even if it’s a glaring mistake on your part, you just keep digging and make the whole situation worse for yourself than it would have been if you had come out in the beginning and said “Oops, made a mistake” You should recognize that when this happens you really aren’t fooling anyone.
IMO, when you have these petty arguments defending misstatements rather than correcting them it doesn’t make you look like you are dedicated to the cause, it makes you look weak and afraid to ask yourself the hard questions and truly examine your beliefs and why you hold them. A true believer shouldn’t be afraid to listen to contrary opinions and interpretations and correct any mistakes/misconceptions.
But there ya go… that’s just my proverbial two cents.
Wait are you suggesting I am racist or Deus is racist? I am certainly not racist.
We’ve been through this. I already pointed out that you hate Mexians and the French, but you decided this dind’t make you racist or xenophobic because those were nationalities, rather than races.
And if you’re not prepared to share your-oh-so brilliant essay with us, then I’m afraid we’re going to have to judge its merits on what we already know about you, namely that you form an opinion before finding the eivdence to back it up, use severely dubious sources as your back-up, and refuse to remotely even engage in any form of counterargument. The latter alone is enough to condemn your essay as being mediocre.
Let’s not forget you got on your high horse and claimed that everyone in your age group liked Linkin Park. You’re a prime one for making erroneous conclusions based on the flimsiest of evidence, and you’re rather inept at defending yourself against such troublesome things as facts that contradict your opinion.

Ok. Here’s my essay:

For most people in my country this is pretty much true. I don’t know what is common for most people in England listen to, but I’m sure there is 1 or 2 musical groups that as a whole young people enjoy.
And I’m not racist. Say whatever bull shit you want about that, but it’s not true. I think youre gay. Of course this is completely unfounded and it’s only a case of your word against mine but I’m going to think your arguments against me are purely a case of youre homosexual aggression from now on. Is that fair? No. But oh well.
For most people in my country this is pretty much true.
That’s odd, I managed to spend a whole 2 weeks in Florida without talking to a single person who liked Linkin Park. Then again, that was probably because I was outside most of the time, and of course I can’t rely on personal experience being definitive anyway.

I somehow doubt that ‘you’re sure’. You just think. I doubt though that I could really name any musical group that pretty much all young people enjoy though, because I’m aware of the fact that people have surprisingly diverse tastes. I also don’t think it’s right to see people as living in some bland cultural mediocrity, but then again that’s just me.

Feel free to do so. I’m secure enough in myself to not really give two shits what a Linkin Park fan from Texas thinks about me. But at least I have some evidence for my opinion of you.
Incidentally, how does wanting to exterminate South America, the Middle East and Africa fir in with your non-racism?
I’m going to think your arguments against me are purely a case of youre homosexual aggression from now on.
Again, feel free to do so. It’s not as if you’ve ever come up with a convincing counterargument to me ever before, so it’d save wear and tear on both our keyboards. Of course, the fact that you think discounting arguments on the grounds that ‘they’re gay’ is a tad childish, not to say illiogical. Oh, and wasn’t it you bitching and whining about ad hominems earlier.
You’ve really got that kettle stuck on your head, haven’t you?

Be honest, did you actually ask every person you met outside if they liked Linkin Park? Actually, I wouldn’t be suprised if you did, just so you could come back here and stick it to Soul. That’d be funny.

No, just seeing all Americans as being scared out of their minds. :smirk:
