Castro loves Mikey
I suppose it was only a matter of time before Castro started bragging…
The Cuban government has weighed in on Michael Moore’s newest documentary, “SiCKO,” saying that the film will allow the world to see the greatness of its health system.
Since taking power in 1959, Fidel Castro’s Communist government has given universal healthcare coverage. Cuban Health Minister Jose Ramon Balaguer said on a public Web cast, “There’s no doubt that a documentary by someone of Michael Moore’s stature will help the world see the deeply humane principles of Cuban society.”
If you’ve seen the film, you know how offensive Moore’s segment about Castro was. He’s basically saying that Castro’s awesome, and that we’ve been lied to all these years about what a horrible person he is.
I don’t think Michael knows any Cubans, and certainly not ones who fled Castro’s barbarian regime. I don’t think he’s ever read anything about what Castro did and continues to do to his people, especially those who challenge him in any way, or have committed the sin of being gay. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to explore that in more detail so that everyone knows exactly what Moore is praising when he glorifies Castro’s government.
Anyway, the point here in this post is to illustrate that Michael fell for the oldest propaganda trick a dictator has ever used; the dictator of a third-world country invites some white guy in to show him “life in __country name here__.” Of course the whole damn thing is staged for the white guy’s benefit, so that he will go home and tell everyone “Oh, he’s not as bad as our stupid leaders say he is.” Castro couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator than Moore. Maybe Michael believes that really is how all Cubans are treated. I doubt anyone could be so naive, but maybe. What we know for a fact is that Moore is willing to lie to promote his agenda, and he knows his fanbase will back him even if they know it’s a lie. Furthermore, even if he does know that the Americans were treated far better than the average Cuban citizen, he’ll never say that in public. It’s a win-win for Fidel Castro.
By the way, Mikey, in case you’re still reading these...no one ever thought the Cuban people were our enemy, as you directly state in the film. It’s Castro’s government that Americans don’t like. You should have taken five minutes to speak to the Cuban community while you were in Miami...of course if they found out what you were up to you might not have made it on to those boats. Some of those people suffered directly under Castro, and it would have done you a world of good to learn some truth about the man you were praising.
It’s a shame you didn’t actually act like a journalist and get the whole story.
Update
The first comment by Hagis mentions the page about Cuban hospitals at The Real Cuba. There’s your Castro, Michael. Shame on you. Shame on you for not digging deeper. Shame on you for helping Castro subjugate and demoralize his people, and keep them living in fear and poverty.
