New Moore film to debut in Toronto
Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore will be up to his old tricks at the Toronto film festival, which helped launch his controversial career with Roger & Me. Moore’s latest political doc, Captain Mike Across America, has been added to the sprawling Special Presentations program.
Moore, who has been openly contemptuous of U.S. President George W. Bush for years, is seen on the 2004 presidential election campaign following the candidates in what he called the Slacker Uprising Tour. Among Moore’s “slacker” pals were Roseanne Barr, Eddie Vedder, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Earl and Joan Baez.
I’m assuming this the “sequel” to Fahrenheit 9/11 Moore shot while on the Slacker Uprising Tour but I haven’t been able to find anything about the film on Moore’s site. I find it rather odd Moore hasn’t does any substantial publicity for this project… curious. Anyone know more about this new film?

Captain MIKE ACROSS AMERICA Michael Moore, USA Special Presentation
CAPTAIN MIKE ACROSS AMERICA takes us back to the 2004 election, when the margin of polling difference between candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry could have tipped either way. The film is made in the feisty spirit of independent media at a fraction of the budget of Moore’s recent films. It captures Moore’s activities as he set out on a campaign trip almost as rigorous and far-reaching as the candidates own, visiting 62 cities in 45 days, and holding large rallies on college campuses. He dubbed it the Slacker Uprising Tour, masterfully riling up audiences as large as fifteen thousand and bringing a star-studded lineup of friends, including Roseanne Barr, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Earl and Joan Baez.
I look forward to all the negative “Roseanne Barr, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Earl and Joan Baez” posts over the next few weeks.
DVDGuy: I look forward to you ever saying anything that isn’t a snarky, assholish dig at this site or it’s authors.

And affected absolutely nothing. Youth voter turnout did not skyrocket, and in fact some credit his asinine antics with sealing the win for GWB - again.
This oughtta be a study in failure if I’ve ever seen one.
Donna, that’s probably the reason for the utter lack of publicity from Mr. Publicity machine - he failed, utterly. I’m surprised he ever let a print of this thing out of his office.
Well, I just found the IMDB link for the movie (*smacks self on the head for not thinking of that earlier*). Looks like Moore has two movies in the works, this one which was originally entitled “Uprising” and an actual sequel to “Fahrenheit 9/11” called “Fahrenheit 9/11 1/2” (wow, that’s awkward to type!). I just looked through Moore’s site again, and there isn’t even a mention of “Captain Mike Across America” or his appearance at the Toronto Film Festival.
I am finding this stranger and stranger. Moore has never shied away from publicity and always promotes himself and his appearances. Why not this one? Inquiring minds want to know…

Hmmm… interesting theory. I like it. I’ll be curious if and when we the people will get to see this film.
I believe that more and more people (including liberals) are starting to see Michael Moore for what he really is. A very wealthy socialist, who only cares about what goes into his wallet.
I would be interested in finding out if this is being distributed by one of Mike’s affiliates, or if it was acquired by a third party.
Because that would certainly make plenty of sense.
He’s not going to stump for a film he has no financial interest in, especially since it will likely serve only to further illustrate his irrelevance and failure during the 2004 election cycle.
Hrmmm.. strike that. Seems the Weinstein Co is distributing it theatrically in the U.S. after all.
Okay, I’m stumped. Why wouldn’t Moore be promoting this, then?
Because it’s still in production, perhaps?
Maybe it’s just too soon, and will be strategically released and promoted later, when it will be more effective?
(Like, say, during the final weeks of the 2008
campaign cycle?)
That’s my best guess.

Hey, artmonkey… where did you find that bit of info? This movie is peaking my curiosity more every minute…
Before I would make comments about any of those celebrities mentioned, I would have to see the movie and ensure that footage of those celebrities was legitimate. Moore has made it a trademark to take other people’s work and twist it, or take his own film and edit it to mislead people.
Besides, why would I be worried about Roseanne Barr? Has she said anything important...ever?
I have visited Michael Moore’s website many times. I see that he encourages people to protest and possibly to get arrested. I have always wondered, has he ever backed up his own words? Has he ever been arrested at a protest? If so, where is his mug shot? Has he ever been to a protest? Can someone please answer.

Even while he prepares “Sicko” for June 2007 release, Moore has created “The Great 2004 Slacker Uprising,” a new movie made with footage surrounding the 2004 U.S. presidential election. While already working on “Sicko,” which will be released by The Weinstein Company, Moore went to Bob and Harvey Weinstein with the idea for this post-election movie. It will be released on DVD in late ‘07, after “Sicko” but before the 2008 U.S. presidential election. In its opening moments, “The Great 2004 Slacker Uprising” is described on screen as the story of “one filmmaker’s attempt to turn things around,” but festival technical problems marred Moore’s attempts to show segments from the film, ultimately forcing him to cancel the clips.
Maybe Moore doesn’t want to offset the DVD release of Sicko, just guessing.
For those that are from Toronto, or coming to the festival, “Captain” will have two public Screenings. Sept 7 at 6pm. (Ryerson theatre) and Saturday the 8th at 11:45am (Scotiabank.. aka: The Paramount).
Both are pretty big theatres, and since the two screenings are so close together it would not surprise me if Mr. Moore wasn’t there in person.
The 2007 Sched is fully on-line now. Here is their preview:
Film Description and Director Biography
Michael Moore has been a ubiquitous presence on talk shows and in YouTube clips this summer, passionately reaffirming the message of his recent documentary, Sicko: America must fix its broken health-care system. It’s hard to remember that for the two years prior, Moore had withdrawn from public life until his re-emergence at last year’s Festival, when he showed the first-ever sneak-preview clips of Sicko. But he was hardly idle in those two years. In addition to Sicko, he was preparing another film – one strategically timed to mobilize voters in anticipation of the 2008 United States presidential election.
Captain Mike Across America takes us back to the 2004 election, when the polling margin between candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry could have tipped either way. Framed like a concert film, it captures Moore’s activities as he set out on a campaign trip almost as rigorous and far-reaching as the candidates’ own. He targeted young people as the demographic that could make the most difference, visiting sixty-two cities in forty-five days, and holding large rallies on college campuses. He dubbed it the Slacker Uprising Tour.
This documentary of his journey is made in the feisty spirit of independent media, budgeted at a tiny fraction of Moore’s recent films. It acts like a time machine, returning us to the weeks prior to the November 2, 2004, election, when campuses across the country were exhilarated by a sense of hope and urgency. Moore masterfully foments this energy, speaking to audiences as large as fifteen thousand. He riles up the crowd with his hilarious improvisation, riffing off the day’s headlines or responding to hecklers. He also brings a star-studded lineup of friends – we see appearances and performances by Roseanne Barr, Eddie Vedder, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Earle and Joan Baez. His political opponents certainly take notice, lobbying schools to ban him from campus, sometimes successfully.
Although the election didn’t go Moore’s way, this film is a cure for the hangover that followed, and a reminder that a new political force emerged on those campuses. Young voters turned out in record numbers in 2004, reversing a trend of decline since 1972 (after the voting age lowered to eighteen). The youth vote increased even more in the following mid-term elections. If you want to understand the future of American politics, Captain Mike Across America is a great place to start.

You’d think IMDB would eventually get tired of the taste of Moore’s cock…
WOW!!! Those are some harsh reviews, particularly the second one. There may be an article in here somewhere....
Thank you for the head’s up and the links, dvdguy. :)
DonnaK : I’m all about the facts. The pro and the con.
Dunno, but it does sound like the most self-indulgent of his self-indulgent crap yet.
