Manufacturing Dissent - Uncovering Michael Moore

A Question

Posted by yngcelt on 12/10/07 at 12:31 PM

You know with all of Moore’s support for government run, socialized medical care, I have to wonder...where does he and his family go for healthcare?  Do they drive up to Canada and take advantage of the wonderful free healthcare and in a sense put his money where his mouth is?  Or does he spend his “hard earned” money on his own personal physician?  It’s a question that nobody seems to be asking him and I have to wonder why?
I mean, as much as I detest him as a human being, or at least what passes as one these days, and as much as I am against socialized medicine, I have to admit that I could muster up a sliver of respect if he actually practiced what he preached and used the same Canadian government healthcare he preaches about.

Moore has yet to flee to Canada and ask for asylum / citizenship.

Also, he may have some legal troubles (up there) if he did (he’s been accused of being a foreigner trying to influence their elections, a crime). That and Canucks are not ‘funny’ anymore.

If he’s in any of the entertainment industry unions, he’s got spectacular health insurance. If not, I’m sure he’s got a very good (and with his physical condition, probably very expensive) plan that he pays for out of pocket.

As for whether or not he goes abroad for his healthcare, why would he? He knows that the best care is here in the U.S. (exception: if you want a procedure or drug that hasn’t been approved by the FDA yet).

NOt to take Moore’s side, but he would probably say that health care in the US is good IF you are wealthy.  Since he is wealthy, there isn’t any reason he wouldn’t get the health care he needs.  He is in the fortunate position of not needing health insurance.  He can afford to pay out of pocket, insulating him from the greedy claim denying of the insurance companies.

Don’t you mean those greedy claim denying folks at Medicare?

I attended Mike’s preview of “Sicko” at th directors Guild in June .  He admitted , in his jokey sheepish way , to the audience and his moderator, Ron Howard, that he is covered by three health care plans.  He gets coverage from the Writers Guild, the Director’s Guild and the Actors Guild.
I wonder during the strike if he is striking against himself as a producer or stopping work on whatever project he has lined up with the Weinsteins?

I think it’s really ironic that a guy who preaches about the seriousness of our healthcare in the U.S. also appears to be one of the unhealthiest guys around!  I mean look at him! He’s gained at least a hundred pounds since the 2000 elections.  He’s a walking massive coronary just waiting to happen.  And HE’S going to lecture about healthcare!!  It’s like Al Gore winning the Nobel for his “work” to fight global warming and preaching about conservation while his own home runs up a monthly electricity bill that rivals most small towns!  Oh, but he “invests in renewable energy” so it’s all good.  That’s like a crack dealer who says he donates to D.A.R.E. programs so it “offsets” the damage he does on youth!

I thought Mr. Moore was anti-union? Just a thought.
Oh and On Mr. Gore Don’t forget his daily private jet trips. he also buys his Carbon Offsets from himself, that way he doesn’t lose any money, just thought I would throw that in there!
