That’s impressive. It is also a raw fact that is indisputable. Now, if I said “This is just another small piece of evidence that Moore is a narcissist and couldn’t care less about those he exploits for his own profit” that would, however unerringly accurate, be opinion.
Michael, you’d have a lot more friends if you knew the difference.

Now that I think of it, his cheap theatrics are probably a pretty reliable indication of the movie itself.
I’d say that’s a darn good bet.
One of the foundations of promoting universal healthcare must be that government is capable of doing what government is usually incapable of doing . . . being efficient. In his Time interview, Moore makes it very clear he’s a liberal because he believes our government can run a massive bureaucracy in an efficient manner. He points to social security checks being on time as proof . . . ignoring the funding issue, of course . . . which, by the way, he points out is the biggest problem Canada has with their system.
On October 12, 2006 Moore submitted his application to the OFAC. Five months later, not hearing from that office—the OFAC being part of our efficient government in Washington and all—Moore went to Cuba anyway. I suppose he just got tired of waiting on his application to be approved.
I wonder if Mikey is willing for American citizens to wait 5 months (or longer) to get treatment for life-threatening diseases when he can’t seem to wait that long for a simple application to be approved.
Someone needs to ask Moore why he went to Cuba before he got approval . . . was it because he got frustrated waiting to hear from the OFAC? Moreover, is this an example of the government efficiency he mentions in the Time interview? Why can we expect a government run healthcare system to be any more efficient that the OFAC?
I wonder if Moore really wants to debate Fred Thompson.
Yes, Belcatar, cheap theatrics with no substance is Moore’s modus operandi. To expect more from him is the definition of futility. There’s a lot wrong with every healthcare system on the planet, but Moore has no intention of presenting anything other than a condemnation of our system using the same old format he’s always used.
I wouldn’t have taken the narcissist critique on Moore’s latest message. I would have dissected the message to show that Moore says “My lawyers got scared that the film MIGHT be confiscated...” and then making it sound like the Bush administration really did plan to confiscate the film. Then he goes on a tirade about how he’s a suppressed American who’s somehow having his rights violated under that false premise.
He makes a claim that is a “concern” of his lawyers and then rambles on about how he has to hide hid film from the government Nazis, helping hype his film as “The film the Government didn’t want you to see”.
He has been building the hype in the best ways he knows how. “Oh the Bush Gov tried to surpress this film, but I’m a freedom fighter for truth so I put the film in another country (making him seem as if on the run from the evil Gov) and I’m going to give you all the truth! Viva la revolution!”
He’s loving every second of this. The investigation is probably legit and not really a threat to him so of course he’s going to use it to hype up his movie and make it seem like the government is after him. It’s all about sticking it to the man - and giving Mike a few bucks in the process.
Ascii, was my post about taking a film to Cannes - a film that had a large crew working on it with subject matter that affects millions of Americans?
Or was it specifically about me? Just wondering if you understand the difference.
Day 1 (May 2, 2007): Moore get letter from OFAC. The OFAC gives Moore 20 days to reply.
Day 15 (May 16, 2007) Harvey Weinstein: “We are doing everything in our power to ensure that it premieres in its entirety on Saturday night in Cannes.”
Day 17 (May 19, 2007): Cannes
Day 20 (May 22, 2007): Response to OFAC required.
As Belcatar said . . . cheap theatrics.
This is the same victim crap he pulled before 9/11 came out. The “I’m telling such a disturbing TRUTH that the evil cabal in power will stop at nothing to ensure that fruits of my investigative labors never see the light of day!”
This is the equivalent of a ten-year-old kid who has something in a bag he wants his friends to see. Instead of pulling it out of the bag and showing it to them, he PREVENTS them from looking at it, thereby increasing their interest.
This whole “The Government is going to steal my movie” crap is cheap theatrics designed to stimulate interest in his movie. Now that I think of it, his cheap theatrics are probably a pretty reliable indication of the movie itself.
