Manufacturing Dissent - Uncovering Michael Moore

Mikey isn’t very NYSE.

Posted by artmonkey on 06/30/07 at 01:18 PM

On June 28, Mikey was interviewed by CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo outside the New York Stock Exchange. Apparently, the interview was supposed to have been held on the NYSE’s trading floor. But, yet again, Mikey’s “people” seem to have forgotten to file for the proper permissions. (DAMN those complicated forms!)

So, if Moore really had wanted to infiltrate the big, bad, evil fortress of kkkapitalist death-dealing, all he had to do was ask the day before. But no, I’m sure it was just another example of the Bush regime stepping in to try to suppress the truth. That makes much better copy, after all. In the end, whether is was just a minor filing goof, or something a little more, shall we say, staged… it still afforded our beloved Manatee of Misinformation the opportunity to do one of his very favoritest things; play the poor, oppressed truth-seeker.

From the interview:

Moore: I thought we were going to do this insde?

Maria: We were going to do it inside, but I guess we thought that your people had already applied to be a guest at the exchange and we didn’t apply for you and as a result it was too late at the end of the day. So I’m sorry about that.

Moore: That’s allright. I’m, I’m, I’m sure that we.. so we can go in there tomorrow is what you’re saying. They’ll let me on the floor tomorrow? That’s what..(unintelligbile) (laughter)

Maria: Um, we don’t have the permission to do that… anyway…

Moore: Sorry. Er, has anyone else ever been deied permission, uhhh, with you, as a guest?

Maria: Hey, let’s talk about health care for a second…

Good for Maria, not letting Moore railroad her into a disengenuous (and obviously pre-planned) insinuation that he was feared and blackballed by the NYSE. Mikey, get over yourself. They don’t give a rat’s ass about you. They certainly don’t fear you. In fact, isn’t your production company puclicly traded? Wouldn’t they have a vested interest in promoting your movie? Who do you think you’re fooling, here, exactly? You’re wasting your time, Mikey. Anyone in the country dim enough to buy that nonsense idea that you were barred from the building due to your politics is already a Michael Moore fan. The 85-and-under-IQ group is already your key demographic. You would just be preaching to the choir, there. And besides, do you think anyone vapid enough to have missed the part about you not filing for permission first, would be watching CNBC in the first place? I think you’d better stick to your core audience over at the WB, or whatever it’s called these days. Maybe the View.

Then came the main interview.

Maria sat back and let Moore go on for the most part. Maybe she was hoping he would run out of gas and wander off, searchingfor a Quiznos sub and a dozen Krispy Kremes. I don’t know. But she did eventually whip out an Op Ed from the Wall Street Journal, in a move I don’t think Mikey was expecting. It sure did seem to shake him, a little. Enough, even to just completely invent a ridiculous stream of bullshit to counter it.

Maria: The documentary is really making a lot of waves and causing some controversy. I’m sur you saw the op-ed in the journal today.
Moore: Yes. (nervous laughter)
Maria: “Who’s really sicko?” was the Op ed, and I wan to read you what Dr David Gratzer says. He says, “the Canadian government study recently found that only abouy half of patients are treated in a timely manner in Canada. In France, a similar situation. In Britain, the department of health recently acknowledged one in eight patients wait more than a year for surgery. So…

Now, I’m going to ask you guys to do something before reading the rest of this. I’m going to ask you to place your hands over your temples, and press really, really hard. This will help keep your head from exploding, which it is bound to do, after you read Moore’s response…

Moore: Elective surgery. They don’t wait for emergencies. If you have a life and death situation in those countries, you are seen by a doctor. That’s the truth.

WHAT?!??!?? The truth?  Once again, our corpulent con-man proves he wouldn’t recognize the truth if it stood outside his New York Condo with a bullhorn and a plackard, selling tee-shirts and chanting slogans for a couple of months, a la Cindy Sheehan.

Maybe if Moore spent a little more time actually reading his opposition here, he’d have seen the numerous recountings of foreign citizens who made a break for the USA in an effort to save their own lives. Hell, didn’t Lee just post a video on this subject? I think it’s still on the front page, isn’t it?  Maybe Moore should give Lindsay McCreith a call, and explain to him that having a golf-ball-sized brain tumor removed is just a trivial elective surgery, and he shouldn’t complain so much.

But, of course, in Moore’s world, these things just don’t happen. In fact, every single person in Canada, the UK and anywhere else with nationalized health care systems is so happy with their coverage that they would never dream of using our system. Like Mikey says in the interview…

Moore: Trust me… with whatever flaws they have in Canada, or Britain or whatever, you will not find a Canadian or a Brit willing to exchange their national health insurance card for our HMO cards. That will never happen.

Okay… first of all, hearing Michael Moore saying “Trust me” just gives me the shivers.  I would have the same reaction if these words were uttered by a guy in cut-off shorts, a dirty wife-beater and a butcher’s apron, holding a rusty pair of kitchen shears as he was trying to convince me to let him give me an appendectomy. (Ironically enough, this image isn’t all that far off from what you’d find in the Cuban health care system, which Moore wants us to emulate.)

Second, nice try at tossing out a straw-man, Mikey. Maybe you’re right. Most (Note: MOST, not ALL) wouldn’t trade NHS for an HMO. But we’re not talking about trading NHS for HMO. We’re talking about trading NHS for American healthcare, in general, not one part of it’s insurance industry. You’re not even comparing apples and oranges. You’re comparing apples and a piece of orange peel, you disingenuous jackass.

And for those who doubt that Moore is on an all-or-nothing crusade… who think he’s just trying to “raise questions” and “start a discussion” on the health care subject… I think you need to read this next quote. Mikey has no interest in anything other than complete socialization of US Healthcare, period.

Maria: Is there a middle ground? Is there a middle ground where government can work with private companies, and still provide good healthe care?

Moore: No. Not with health insurance. There is no middle ground.

THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND. Capitalism bad, Socialism good. No compromise. Get it? Got it? Good. In Mikey’s world, if the goverment doesn’t control 100% of healthcare, then you’re doing it wrong. Period. Remember that the next time you Mooreons want to utter some nonsense about Moore just trying to engage us in a debate.

Lastly, Mikey once again gives us a peek at the true leftist mindset, wherein only liberals, as a group, care about their fellow man, while conservatives are all, in general, heartless slaves to greed and corporatism.
(Emphasis added)

Maria: What kind of a response are you getting from Wall Street, real quick?

Moore: Well, actually, a lot of people who have seen the film, uhhh, uhhh… especially people who are more conservative than I am, arer saying wow, this has really effected me. This is something we need to fix. Because, you know what? I believe that even conservatives, republicans, people that believe in this building (NYSE) here, also have a heart, and and do not want to see 47 million other fellow americans go without. I know most people don’t believe that, and it’s something that we’ve got to fix.

Oh, so you’re giving us an out, huh? You’re going to be kind enough to give us conservatives the chance to “prove everyone wrong” by backing you on your socialist crusade, thereby proving, finally, that we’re not all heartless, greed-driven monsters, huh? Piss up a rope, Mikey. If you want to see real heartlessness, go visit a real Cuban hospital sometime. Go talk to Lindsay McCreith, and the other thousands waiting months (at least) for crucial treatment in the UK, Canada, etc.  Go talk to the victims of the systems you want us to adopt… if they’re still alive to give you their insight, you patronizing douche.

And the next time you want to gain access to a private area, instead of crying oppression, try getting off your lazy ass and filling out the application.

Moore yet again plays the card of “Everyone’s behind me! Everyone’s converting to my cause! Oh, also, everyone’s against me, and I’m constantly fighting a battle against The Man to get the message out.”

Still, I find it offensive that you compared him to a manatee.

Manatees are peaceful.

My sincerest apologies to any manatee who may have been offended by my remarks.

Well done, artmonkey! Brilliant post as usual. I do so love your blend of wit and insight. :)

Moore’s schtick is running thin. I saw a clip of him on the view whereas rosie o’donnel’s favorite non-lesbian, Elizabeth Hasselback asked moore something to the affect of: “You’ve built your career telling us how messed up the U.S. goverment is. If that’s the case, how can you trust them to fix the healthcare system?” To which moore basically replied: “Ummm, uhh, they used to run things really well...” Bitch-slapped by Elizabeth Hasselback. Nice.

To which moore basically replied: “Ummm, uhh, they [the government] used to run things really well...”

When the hell was that, Mike?

Moore just makes this stuff up as he goes along.

I am so disturbed by this.  I just love how CNN and FOX are such liars until it comes to healthcare.  Now they are suddenly supporting Michael and running adver...I mean “interviews” for him...so they are just not lying anymore.  I guess they have hearts now too.  Larry Shill King read a passage from the France heat wave deaths.  And Michael, as if he totally expected it, had a well crafted answer ready to go.  His answer was that the whole country just pulled together and “collectively” bought air conditioners for the elderly.  He has mastered this.  And I think he is telling these people what they are and are not allowed to ask him.  Because no one has as yet ask the real questions.  They all keep asking the same 3 or 4 questions which he answers so confidently a la Clinton style.

Donna, Thanks! I really appreciate it.

Biafra, Hudson County, NJ, actually. (Though now living in the lap of the Pocono Mountains.)

Crichton, I missed that episode of the View. Actually, I miss every episode of the View. Actually, I don’t miss them at all, honestly. I just treat them the way a deer treats a mack truck. I avoid them as much as I can, but eventually, I’m bound to zig when I should have zagged, and wind up in excruciating pain.

Midstreamhorse, there has been a lot of fawning lately, I agree. But that says three things, to me;

1. Mikey doesn’t care WHO is hawking him, as long as they’re hawking him. Even FOX.
2. Ratings rule, and Mikey, for all his dishonesty (actually, it’s probably because of it.), gets ratings.
3. Obviously, Rupert Murdoch realizes that in the end, Mikey isn’t really a threat to a free market system. Eventually, people will realize what he’s really pushing, and drop him like a burning bag of back bacon.

Moore:  “Elective surgery”

Yeah, Where’d he pull that one from.
I’d like his definition of “Elective sugery”.
Maybe it would be having severe hemmoroids removed.  After all, the woman chose to have three kids, so she can wait a couple of months with bleeding, discomfort and embarassment.  Several months with an ingrown toenail, perhaps?  After all, the person didn’t take care of his or her feet, so that has to be elective.

Moore doesn’t know what he is talking about, because he hasn’t done proper research into the hospital queues and why they happen in countries that give resposibility to the government to provide healthcare.  Too bad the reporter didn’t follow that up with more critical questions.  But then, she may not have done the research either.
