Ooh, Joy!
Mikey is making a sequel:
Michael Moore is making a sequel to “Fahrenheit 9/11” for Overture Films and Paramount Vantage, which will shop the project to international buyers when the Cannes Film Festival and market get under way today.
--snip--
Sequel will pick up where “Fahrenheit 9/11” left off. In the time since, Bush’s popularity has plummeted, while the Iraq war continues and the economy falters.
“It’s a vote of confidence on Michael’s part and a great partnership for all of us,” Rosett said. “There is a voracious appetite for this kind of commentary.”
Really? Is there? You think beating a dead horse has a market? A dead horse who will be out of office by the time the movie is released? I love this bit:
Moore’s decision not to make his next film with the Weinstein Co. comes after “Sicko” failed to ignite at the box office. Film, which took on the U.S. health care system, grossed $24.5 million domestically and $11.2 million internationally. Topically, the film didn’t resonate with overseas auds.
Yeah, it’s the Weinstein’s fault. It’s not because the film had holes in it that were big enough that Mike’s ego could comfortably pass through them.
Anyway, we’re fired up about this. We can use the traffic. And the exercise of debunking Mike’s crapola.
Comments
The other reason Mike shopping the new film around is that he had a sweetheart deal with Weinstein for “Sicko” which probably drove a wedge between them. Mike had seven million up front and half Weinstein’s gross on the back end. Since the exhibitors get half the money up front that means that the Weinstein’s got around fifteen million back from the theaters. They had put out seven million up front to Mike and then you add prints and advertising. They may have lost millions to the bloated anti capitalist. Unless there was a compensation for the fact that Mike was nine months late with the picture the Weinstein’s lost millions on the film. The last thing they wanted to do was deal with Mike again.
I wonder how many times the words “You’ll never work in this town again” was said between them over the ordeal.
Actually, we already know all about this movie. It’s the film he paraded around Toronto called “Captain Mike Across America”. You remember it… the one with the really, REALLY bad reviews from everyone? I believe the new title is “We Were This Close”.
*sigh* This should be fun, anyway!
I have a feeling it will mostly be an Al Gore smoochfest. He’ll say, “Meanwhile, the man who SHOULD have won the election won something better. The Nobel Peace Prize, for his tireless efforts in making his gigantic mansion slightly less obscene than it used to be. He also won an OSCAR! Like ME! I WON AN OSCAR! SHAME ON YOU MISTER BUSH! SHAME ON YOU! See, American People? If you had just listened to me, you would have had the INVENTOR of the INTERNET as your President!”
I predict that he’ll also have a section where he pimps his old moonbat attention-whore Cindy Sheehan. I understand she challenged Feinstein for her Senate seat, though I never heard much about it after that. He’ll go wandering about D.C. bushwhacking politicians, asking them questions crafted to make any answer sound bad.
I further predict a section about Ron Paul, carefully crafted to sidestep all the stuff he disagrees with Dr. Paul about.
And then the movie will be over and people will leave.
I get the feeling that this’ll be one big political ad for the Obamessiah.

That would be just wonderful. Then we could talk about the person he beat to get that worthless excuse for an award.
Don’t forget… we already know what this movie is about. Click on the “Captain Mike Across America” category and you can see it all for yourself. It’s a “documentary” of Moore’s “Slacker Uprising” tour in 2004. If it’s a lovefest of anyone… it’s Moore himself - that was the biggest grievance people had with it. I’m just going to be curious how much editing he did after he got slaughtered by both reviewers and fans at TIFF.
I’m not sure “Captain Mike” is the template, Donna. I have a feeling it will be more of “Thank God we’re free at last—here’s how horrible the last eight years have been—let’s see that this never happens again” type deal.
So, woman saves thousands of children from being killed by Nazis. Gore makes movie. And Gore wins. That really lowers my opinion of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Belcatar, if your opinion about that thing could get any lower, you just didn’t know enough about some of the shit they’ve pulled before.
I really don’t know a whole lot about the Nobel Prize, except that some guy named Nobel from Sweden instituted it because he felt guilty about something or other, and there’s a million bucks in it for you if you win. Somehow, I was under the impression that it was respectable, but it doesn’t surprise me to hear otherwise.
This is a pretty good short-and-sweet summation of what the Nobel Prize committee is like.

I’m pretty sure on this one. Moore talked about this project ("Captain Mike/This Close” I mean) as “his new movie” and they played clips of it when he appeared on “Larry King Live”. They were the exact same clips that we saw stills of from TIFF when the film was still called “Captain Mike” - they even referenced the old title. I know that Moore has yet another new project that he’s working on, but he indicated on Larry King that his documentary of the “Slacker Uprising” Tour (which is what “Captain Mike” is) was to be his next release and that it was coming out at the end of the year.
I absolutely could be wrong (it has be known to happen *grin*) but based on all of that I’m sticking with my guess. Of course I’m sure Moore will be more forthcoming with information soon enough to clear up all doubts on all sides. :)
We ought to do a definitive debunking of Sicko… because unlike his other movies, I don’t think anyone has…
and…
While it may have bombed, it will be shown forever (and/or until the government takes over healthcare) in schools. We should write something up and shoot it… and get it out there demanding that any teacher / instructor that shows Sicko should show it to present the other side.
Anyone want to work with me on it? I’ve got access to professional video equipment… we could do it a few months. Also, we can make fun of the fact that we are more like what Mike claim… We have no budget, no backing, we’re just everyday people trying to get the facts out… Sorta, call people on a speaker phone and talk to them vs. flying out to film them… while being obvious about the fact it’s because we don’t have a huge Hollywood corporate budget like Mikey…
Anyway, letting his bs slide by with the next generation… eventually we’ll loose big. 16-20 year old hardly hear anything but the lefty side….
sl0re, that’s a pretty good idea. There was a post here once that unified all the arguments.
One thing I was considering was watching the movie before his next release and then putting up a multi-part post linking all our arguments. It would be a big project, though.
If you want a good debunking of “Sicko” and Mike’s works go to http://www.shootingmichaelmoore.com/
and order a copy of “Shooting Michael Moore”

I think we should all rewatch it and then work up a response. Maybe something that could be made into video. I could have some fun striking a Letterman style pose next to a speakerphone calling people for interviews.... Mix in stock footage (heck, Mike uses a lot of it) and out takes from his movie (for educational reasons… ergo legal) and we’d have it…
One of the bigger parts of the project would be fact checking ourselves. Double check we are right about everything we’d claim before we put our credibility on the line… because, unlike Mike, we all care about ours.

Hasn’t he been rumbling that he was going to do this since five minutes after the original came out?
I mean, I can understand that he’s realized that he really is only popular with anti-war moonbats, and maybe he’s finally going to give them exactly what they want again, but it’s a little “Duke Nukem Forever” at this point…
