A reader e-mailed this in, in case anyone is A: in the area and B: would like to attend. He also mentions that finding Jason Clarke and David Hardy’s book Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man on the shelves is not easy.
At one point it was the number 3 book on Amazon. OUT OF ALL OF THEM. Right now it’s hovering at 12. OUT OF ALL OF THEM.
Nope...nothing wrong here, folks. Everyone hides books that sell well. It’s a common practice in bookstores to hide the books that are popular, right?
Anyway, the event.
Hello,
I just purchased “Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man” at Barnes and Noble in Warwick, RI. I called ahead and they had a copy and held it for me. They had a table in the main isle with a bunch of anti-Bush books, along with “plenty” of copies of “Stupid White Men” and “Dude, Where’s My Country?”. Before asking for my copy, I scanned the shelves of “Current Affairs” to see how many copies of “...Big Fat Stupid White Man”, if any, they had left. After my tedious and determined hunt, I finally found just one more copy which I took and placed it on the anti-Bush table.
It just goes to show where even the big corporate bookstore’s mindset is at. I feel everyone should be given a chance to have both options in front of them and then form their own opinion, instead of having marketing conglomerates stuffing it down our throats once we walk in the door. (Did I mention that I was bombarded right at the entrance with over a 6-foot high display table filled with Clinton’s new book?)
I have many things I would like to express, as many others have, but I will keep this to current on-goings.
Tonight in Newport, RI, there is a special screening of “Fahrenheit 9/11” with an introduction and a Q&A session by 3 of its producers: Carl Deal, Kurt Engfehr and Tia Lessin (click below). There is also a reception following the film, featuring an industry insider and the producers as well. I will be in attendance at both gatherings giving my reserved, intellectual point of view, with my new book in tow. I know it is short notice, but I encourage anyone in the area to attend either function.
