Where’s Sicko?
Hi folks, the elusive Paratrooper here. Yeah, I’m still here. I just had to stop writing for a while because of, well, it’s classified.
But I’m always “here” and I never stop thinking.
Today I was thinking about Michael Moore’s next film “Sicko”. I think I remember reading that he screened a teaser of the film at the Traverse City Film Festival last year. He’s written that he’ll release the film in 2007, but as of 8 months ago, the film was reportedly 75% complete. There’s still no word about this movie, in fact, it seems to be on hold.
I wonder if it’s Wal Mart’s fault.
Moore’s premise is that big business prevents the regular Joe from getting medical care, and even when they get medical care, they can’t afford the prescriptions. Now the behemoth Wal Mart is giving prescriptions for over 300 of the most popular medicines for only 4 bucks for a month’s supply. Other retailers are following suit, offering super low prices for medicine. Seems like big business took care of one of the problems with our health care system without Moore releasing a film about it.
I wonder how much film about prescription will have to be left on the cutting room floor because of this development. I wonder if Moore has enough other stuff to fill a movie?
I guess we’ll have to see.
