Moore roundup, Patriot’s Journey, OT
I know I have been slacking off on the Patriot’s Journey posts. I’ll do better. In the meantime, the second-to-last item in this roundup counts for today. :)
OK, here’s a few interesting tidbits…
- First up, sent in by about a half-ton of people, a good, comprehensive review of Jesse Larner’s new book ”Moore and Us: One Man’s Quest for a New World Order.”
I wasn’t expecting an awful lot from Larner’s book, since his politics are so far to the Left. As you’ll see from the Q&A below, he hates George W. Bush almost as much as Moore does, and this leads him into some laboured rants against the forces of darkness. But to his credit, he refuses to ignore uncomfortable facts about the Left’s favourite all-round polemicist. His verdict is detailed and damning. Moore’s admirers have long had a habit of shrugging off attacks as the work of the grand right-wing conspiracy. It won’t be so easy this time.
I ordered a copy, but it seems to be UK only, so who knows how long it will take to arrive. I’ll post a review as soon as I have finished it though. In the mean time, that lnk to the book takes you to Amazon.co.uk, and we don’t get a cut if you buy it, the reviewer I linked does.
- Next up, sent in by many of you as well, Mikey is helping with a film festival.
Michael Moore is helping develop a yearly film festival for this northern Michigan tourist town that will include free outdoor showings of all-time favorites on a large waterfront screen.
Among the classics being considered: “Jaws,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” and “Casablanca.” But no “Fahrenheit 9/11.”
The Traverse City Film Festival Committee, with Moore as chairman, received permission from city commissioners Monday to use a municipal park adjacent to Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay for the outdoor viewings during the inaugural festival, scheduled for July 28-31.
The park, known as the Open Space, also is the primary setting for the National Cherry Festival in early July. The films will be shown on a 49-foot-by 24-foot inflatable screen.
So far so good. If Moore keeps his word, and we all know how valuable his word is, then I commend him for this. I ain’t the only one doubting Mikey’s word, however…
Some people at the meeting weren’t convinced.
“You’re going to be driving past it and you’re going to be watching political propaganda,” Mary Ann Galic said.
Local citizens should decide what films are shown on public property, said Genie Aldrich, another Traverse City resident.
“This is not Podunk USA and we do not need outsiders coming in here telling what is good for us,” Aldrich said.
It’s amazing how little trust Moore’s fellow Michigan residents have in him. Oh wait...he’s not a resident of Michigan. Hey, that would explain the “outsiders” reference from Aldrich. :)
- Next...did anyone else notice Moore made the nominee list for the Discovery Channel’s “Greatest American” thing? WTF? By what stretch of the imagination does a lying, opportunistic pile of human fecal waste like Moore deserve to be on a list with George Washington? WHo made that stupid list? Luckily he went nowhere in the voting. I’m slightly appalled as some of those who made it in to the top 25 though. Dubya? a “Greatest?” No, sorry. Oprah? Billy Graham? Fucking Bill Clinton? On what planet are these people examples of our “greatest” Americans?
But that’s the beauty of America, folks. You’re free to make up dumb polls and just as free to vote stupidly in them without fear that the police will come and take you away if you don’t vote for Glorious Leader.
- Lastly, my new podcast is up. Nothing at all to do with Moore, but damn fine entertainment anyway. :)

You guys did it! I actually won something.
I would like to give a speech now.

No, wait, wrong speech. I’ll get back to you. ;)

Announcement: A new community site
Not everyone will be interested in this, and not all of you will fit in to the plan, but…
Announcing South Park Conservatives (dot com).
My intent is to make this a true group community site, where members submit stories and editors (to be named later) pick the ones that end up on the front page. There are forums as well...and it’s PostNuke, so we can add features later to expand the community. I don’t want it to be driven by any one person or personality, but to truly reflect a community, so once it gets rolling I hope to take a back seat and let the site govern itself as much as is possible.
Come on over, register (one login for the site AND the forums!) and have some fun. Know this: It is NOT a Moore-related venture. In fact I rarely expect his name to come up. He doesn’t really fit with the idea. I want this to be a place where we can examine issues where SPCs bump heads with traditional conservatives and see how we as SPCs can expand our influence.
Check it out. Pretty sparse right now because I just got the software installed...we need people!
If you’re a Moore-on who is thinking of following along, know that there is a Total zero tolerance policy for negative behavior. If you;d like to come and have some thnoughtful discussions and a little fun, then come and be welcome.

Bleg; Need an artist
I’m creating a new community site. I need someone to do a masthead/logo and maybe some stuff for effect around the site.
It needs to be in the style of South park.
Anyone out there that can draw? The work would be moneyless, but I would thank you a lot. :)

(Personal) Health care update
Since so many of you came forward to suggest things or wish us well, I thought maybe some people would want to know where Donna and I stood in the great health insurance search.
Thank all of you so much for your support. It’s humbling to know that people who don’t even know us show so much care when the chips are down. I’m not surprised, though...we’ve proven time and time again that the Moorewatch crowd is a caring, generous lot. In short, many of you rule. Individually and collectively. :)
This has been an interesting experience, and one that I believe will give me a unique perspective on anything our dear Mr. Moore will have to say about the business of health care. I’m looking forward to “Sicko” for personal reasons now, not just as a subject of study for this website. One can hope, although it’s unlikely, that Moore will actually be honest and forthright in exposing the problems in the industry.

I need a Christmas miracle
This post is purely personal in nature. I am completely taking advantage of the higher traffic here at Moorewatch hoping the right set of eyes will see this. My apologies for using the site this way, but I really do need a miracle here.
*UPDATE*
I should have done this months ago. The blogosphere always comes through.
Thansk to the suggestions from some peoplearound the ‘net to look at high-risk stuff, I ended up getting a call from a company called IAB Health Group. They buy group plans and resell to people that Anthem Blue Cross turns down. The end result? As of January 1st, we might be covered. And it’s pretty good insurance, not the best ever but a damn sight better than paying out of pocket. The benefits list is here.
Now, like in all things that seem too good to be true, I am wary. I used a credit card that I can dispute should all hell break loose and this turn out to be some scam. Worst case scenario, I lose $341.80 (the first month plus enrollment fee). If this turns out to be totally legit, IAB will bcome my new favorite company ever and I’m going to become evangelical in trying to get them new members.
Thank all of you SO much for your help, suggestions, prayers and wishes. I feel like a three ton weight is off my shoulders...maybe. :)
Oh, and to the couple of folks that went that extra mile, and you know who you are...I don’t really know what to say except thank you. I hope your Christmas or Hannukah or whatever you celebrate is the best it can possibly be.
END *UPDATE*
I have been thinking about this for weeks, wondering if posting this is somehow crossing the line. I know lots of people ask for support and favors in the blogosphere. I have asked on behalf of others in the past. This time I’m asking for me.
If you aren’t aware (and unless you’re a long-time reader of my blog, there is no reason you should be), my wife has been pretty ill for nigh on to 5 years now. Our health insurance was gone a long time ago...she was a law student and the university stopped covering her after the third semester of medical leave.
Last year I was turned down by every carrier I could find. I fear it may be worse this year because now she has been diagnosed as epileptic. Pre-existing conditions and all that. I have tried almost every group or self-employed plan you can find, all to no avail. Many of them don’t even return multiple requests for information.
So here is my plea...if you work in the health insurance business and you know a way I can get her insured, please tell me. We would be willing to pay almost anything in premiums. Anything has to be better than the $12,000 or so we’re shelling out now.
I only have one string: It has to be a PPO. Any plan that would restrict the doctor or facility choice or force us to apply for permission for treatment isn’t worth having, we may as well pay cash.
There has to be someone out there who can help. Someone who knows the rules or can make an executive decision to help us out. Right? There has to be someone.
If you can help, please contact me. I will be in your debt for all of time.

That’s one way to do it
I’m having what one can only call a bad day. See here, then also see the fact that for a reason I cannot figure out, rather than clear just the spam from my inbox, the filters just seem to have wiped out 1500 messages.
Gone.
*poof*
If you sent me something in the last week or so that needs attention, please resend it. I’m going back to sleep for a few days hours.

Experience It Yourself
Guess what is about to arrive on DVD? Everyone’s favorite movie, Michael Moore Hates America.
Just in time for the Holidays, “Michael Moore Hates America” is available for pre-order with an estimated shipping date of December 15th, 2004. The controversial documentary by Michael Wilson examines the filmmaking methods of Director Michael Moore ("Fahrenheit 9/11”, “Bowling for Columbine”, “Roger & Me") and finds that not all is as it seems in the world of Hollywood documentaries. With the goal of getting an interview with the increasingly embittered and elusive Moore, Michael Wilson travels the country to tell the inspiring story of a nation and its everyday people, resulting in a film so honest and surprisingly self-critical that it will never win the top prize at Cannes.
Incorporating interviews with well-known cultural figures such as Albert Maysles, Andrew Breitbart, Dinesh D’Souza, Penn Jillette, J.C. Watts, David Horowitz and others, “Michael Moore Hates America” examines the present cultural dialogue in the United States, highlighting the often shrill and misleading style of Moore’s documentaries in particular. See the film that Variety writes is “far more jocular, good-natured and thoughtful than Moore partisans might expect” and that Ebert and Roeper give Two Thumbs Up!
This is an absolutely fabulous film. Trust me, you need to buy it. It’s $19.95. Get over there right now!
