Hands out, we prostrate ourselves to your kindness

Posted by JimK on 02/04/04 at 03:37 AM

It’s about that time again...time to beg.

Servers and bandwidth aren’t free, and so we come to you asking for your kindness.  If you feel this site provides a service to the Internet, you can toss a couple bucks in the donation pot to show your appreciation.  By no means should you feel obligated: we’re going to try to be here for you no matter what.

Coming up soon, Moorewatch is going to expand a little with a second sub-site.  More on that this summer.

To everyone that has donated in the past: Thank you VERY much.  Your generosity has been both appreciated and needed.  You people are some of the best people I’ve met online...thank you.

To donate, use the one you like better:

It’s Baaa-aack!

Posted by JimK on 01/07/04 at 11:05 PM

Celebrating the one-year anniversary of Michael Moore silencing his fans and critics alike on his own site, we bring you a revival:

Forums are live.  Unfortunately, to get the best results, we had to use a program that does not use the registration system that the blog uses.  So hop on over, register yourself and get to postin!

The Forums

Update by Lee: In case you are not familiar with what Jim is talking about, it was one year ago today that Michael Moore closed his forums.  We blogged on it at the time.  It seems that it was just over one year ago that the controversy broke over some of Mike’s antics in the UK.  He made an incredibly racist remark that the only reason the 9/11 attacks happened is because there weren’t enough black guys on the plane, and he launched a screaming attack against the staff of the theater hosting his one-man show.  (So much for his “man of the people” image.)

At any rate, he was taking a lot of heat in his forums over these incidents, and it was at that time that his site magically had technical issues that required them to take the forums down.  They were never put back up.

Just a plea.  Alms?  Alms for the Moore(watch)?

Posted by JimK on 11/04/03 at 09:16 AM

So it’s that time again.  We spend our own money on this site.  Well, I do, Lee’s just a mooch. ;) I’m cyber-begging so we can pay our server bills for a couple months and have some breathing room while we re-design the site and try to add a virtual buttload of new features, like real forums, messaging, seperate news/opinion areas, a links area to which users can add links maybe even user-editable posting areas and a file area.

I think we’ve outgrown the blog stage...we have a community here, and we could have a pretty cool place.

So give.  Give early, and give often. Anything you feel is fair is greatly appreciated.  Use the PayPal or Amazon links over to the right.  Every penny goes directly to the server fees.  If we were ever to collect more than we spend, well...we’ll think of something cool to give back to the community, because the goal of this site is not to make money, but to create a place where people can come and see if Moore is really the soothsayer and truthteller he pretends to be.

Big trouble in little Serverland

Posted by JimK on 05/16/03 at 09:58 AM

Once again, I find myself with a tin cup in hand, asking the fine users of Moorewatch to help us attack the monstrosity known as “THE SERVER BILL FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.”

This malevolent beast has attacked month after month, and we can beat it back, but only with your help.  If you feel so inclined, drop a buck or two in the tip jars, or maybe buy a sticker or a t-shirt.  Buy 30 stickers and put ‘em on crunchy granola cars...put them up at toll booths on the highways.  Or, if you’re in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, put them where Moore will see them, i.e. the side of the hotdog guy’s pushcart, or on the counter at McDonalds.

Like Bartles and James used to say...thank you for your support.

Problems accessing the site

Posted by JimK on 05/06/03 at 12:58 AM

Someone is sending a Denial of Service attack on our server.  Odds are it’s one of the Moore fanatics that hate us because of Moorewatch.com or RevokeTheOscar.com.  SO far we’ve had to block a LOT of IP numbers

That means AOLers may be blocked for the time being.  An unfortunate side effect, but this is ridiculous.  If someone asks why they can’t get to Right-Thoughts.us, Right-Thinking.com, Moorewatch, Revoke The Oscar or NicoleBlackman.com, now you can tell them.

We traced a couple of the MAC addresses and some IP numbers to the originators, and I will be drafting letter to the ISPs.

If you’re reading this, and you’re the guy...We caught you.  You’ll be hearing from us soon.

A fellow brother in arms…

Posted by JimK on 04/15/03 at 11:32 PM

I was just made aware of this site: Moorelies.com.  Nice!  The more the merrier...or the Moore the merrier.  The site, by Jason Clarke, is quite well-done and is a perfect example of the term “groundswell.” One by one, these sites are popping up all over the net and building a groundswell against Mikey.

Moore...we’re not alone, and we’re all coming for you.

Just putting our hand out again

Posted by JimK on 04/01/03 at 04:59 AM

We have been hit with higher and higher bills all the time for this site.  SO far, your kind donations have caught us up to the month that was overdue, but we don;t know what to do for this month, or the next.

I hate to keep asking, and we are working on some shirts and mugs to help out as well...but:

If you haven’t donated to the site yet, and you spend a lot of time here...you really should consider tipping a little.  Even if you’re against everything the site stands for, if you use the site all day, and you knwo who you are, the right thing to do would be to help support the environment we’ve created for you to speak your mind.

Future plans include a real, full-featured message board and maybe a chat room...the less I have to worry about the server bills, the faster I can install those features! :)

If you’ve donated in the past, and MANY of you have, thank you so much.  I would love to write each and every one of you a personal reply, but I really don’t think I could type that much. :) You are the heart and soul of the site, and you make it possible for all of us to yell at each other all day long!  :) Thank you.

ATTENTION EVERYONE WHO USES WINDOWS

Posted by JimK on 03/27/03 at 11:54 PM

Someone here who has my email address in their address book is infected with the Klez virus.  It may even be more than one person.  If you have an anti-virus program installed, please run it ASAP.  If not...why not?  Are you crazy!?  Get thee to a software repository and download something for free.  Here are some links:

Klez removal Tool - Do this now, now now!

AVG Anti-Virus

Panda Antivirus

AntiVir Personal Edition

And of course, the big two, not free per se: Norton and McAfee.

If you don’t want to download, try Trend Micro’s free Online Virus Scan

A WARNING TO ALL

Posted by JimK on 03/25/03 at 01:13 PM

Consider this your first, last and only warning on this subject.

There are a number of users of this site that are literally too stupid to use it, and I speak from a technical standpoint.  The fact that they all support Moore is coincidental, I’m sure.

NO ONE will be removed because of what they believe politically.  However, it seems that some poeple do not understand the concept of civil behavior in someone else’s living room.  SO...here are the very simple rules:

1. NO RACISM
2. NO CHILD PORN OF ANY KIND, EVEN IN DISCUSSION
3. NO SPAMMIMG.
Spamming for our purposes is defines as repeated posting of the same material either in one thread orin many threads.  In most cases here, the same people are literally cutting and pasting one post into many threads.  The secondary definition of spamming is what is also known as billboarding, as in posting the same post 3, 4, 5 or 16 times in a row.

THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  LEARN TO BE PATIENT WHILE THE PAGE REFRESHES.  If you do it once or twice by accident, that’s fine, but when it becomes a pattern, you become a problem.

4. Multiple accounts - If I have to, I will start checking IP numbers and forcing registration for ALL posts, period.  Stop inflating your position by posting under multiple accounts.  It’s a completely pussy thing to do anyway.

That’s about it.  Conduct yourselves like you have some pride in how you’re perceived by the world.  All we have to judge each other by here are words...make yours count and don’t waste our bandwidth unless you’re willing to make an effort.

Creative thinkers: get yer thinkin caps on!

Posted by JimK on 03/24/03 at 11:12 PM

We need slogans.  T-shirt slogans, that is.  We’re looking for witty, clever, pointed, patriotic, impactful and short slogans that will perhaps go on a t-shirt or three…

NO vulgarities, please, we want to be able to wear these EVERYWHERE.

If you have ideas for siple graphics, feel free to toss those into the mix as well.

Now, I know from reading this site we have some damn funny people here who know how to use humor to make a point...c’mon, bring it!  Stick it to Moore with textiles!  :)

Taking advantage

Posted by JimK on 03/24/03 at 04:53 AM

I noticed since the Oscar ceremony we have a LOT of new visitors...since I have already whored myself once, I am going to bite the bullet and do it again:

If you find the site useful, even if you disagree with us but you enjoy the debate that rages night and day, please consider dropping a couple of dollars in the tip jar.  You can use PayPal and/or Amazon, whatever you already use.

I don’t normally like to ask for cash to run a website, but this one gets a lot of traffic, and the server bills mount up.  The Internet clowdown sure hasn’t made the wallet of this webmaster fat with profit, either! :) So, like I said, if you love us or you hate us but find the site useful, please consider helping out.  It’s strictly voluntary, obviously, and it can be anonymous if you want.

We greatly appreciate it more than you know.  Your generosity makes you a good Netizen.  :)

Panhandling

Posted by JimK on 03/19/03 at 06:27 AM

There’s no way around this one…

I hate to do this, but the server fees are mounting up and I can no longer safely say I can keep us on the air, so to speak.  I am broke, and the server fees are three months in arrears.  I never expected this to get popular, nor did I expect to lose my “sugar daddy” (someone was paying for the server until a few months ago.)

What I’m asking is that if you find the site useful, please consider chipping in with a few dollars.  Nothing fancy, nothing major...if a lot of people did something small, we’ll be just fine.

I hate to start cyberbegging, but I don’t know another way to solve this problem.  If ANYONE out there has any ideas on how the site can generate just enough to be self-sustaining, please email me with the link at the right.

I know this is a distasteful way to try to stay alive, and I’m not happy about doing it.  By no means do we ever intend to make money with MOOREWATCH...this is solely about covering costs so we can continue to voice our opinions and hear yours.
