Breakin’ the (bad) law
In defiance of the blatant attack on everyone’s First Amendment rights, this website will run any ad for any politician seeking election this November, from now until Election Day.
FOR FREE.
McCain/Feingold is a blight on our free society and this site stands in defiance with thousands of other sites who refuse to take one more day of this. This far and no further. The buck stops here. We will stop at nothing less than a repeal of this un-Constitutional law.
If you are a candidate, of ANY political stripe, Democrat, Green, Republican, Independant...I don’t care. I will not refuse anyone. During this period of civil disobedience, i will run any ad from any politician who is legally and officially in a race. Email me at the address to your left and I’ll give you a special code for BlogAds, or we can discuss a custom ad banner or text ad. All free. I’ll even create your graphics if you need that done. Again...free.
Why am I doing this? For one very simple reason.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
McCain/Feingold silences any and all advertising by candidates until the election as of today. This leave ONLY special interest groups with the ability to manipulate and flood the airwaves with whatever message they decide voters should hear. Groups like MoveOn.org, America Coming Together, The Swift Boat Veterans For Truth, and yes, even the NRA has a 527. Whatever side you are on, you cannot want these groups to be the sole voices in the media for the next two months straight.
We, along with candidates for office, are The People, and we are peacably assembling. I think it goes without saying that each of us has a grievance against the government for one thing or another. We have the right to speak about candidates and to have candidates speak to us. This is where left and right, Republican and Democrat, Conservative and Liberal, gay & straight, men & women, we all come together and say “No. You will not destroy our right to share ideas and talk in the public square so that we may determine who we wish to choose as a leader.”
If you have a website, I urge you to do the same.

A very good idea; since my computer skills are basically the same as Vermin, I think will do my part by donating to this site.
Another example of why Jim is the man. Ive got some computer skills, anything I can do to help, lemme know.
Well said JimK. 2 months of 527 ads/propaganda? T.V. goes off. Time to start going back to the library again.
Jim, you walk the walk, unlike some fat, pathetic, rich filmmaker whose name we already know. I don’t watch television, so I don’t get any of those ads, but I’m sure they’re quite annoying. I hope some of the candidates take you up on your offer.
You know, I can’t fight, that’s really walking the walk. The military wouldn’t take me and I wouldn’t leave my wife if they would, she’s not ready to be left alone (but improved tremendously in the last six months BTW).
I’m not rich, so I can’t finance my own 527. I’m creative, but not driven enough to make a film. Plus the ADD would kick in. Moorewatch and my own blog are the only two creative things I have ever stuck with.
I have the Internet and my willingness to break the law when I believe it’s wrong. So...I’m going to use them. If that makes me a walkin’ the walk guy, I thank you for saying it and I’m proud to be thought of as that kind of person.
An awesome stand. Plus, since it’ll take away funds, definitly putting your money where your mouth is.
quick question, is McCain/Feingold candidates only, or does it also include for/against specific propositions and the like?
Jim-
I think the reason this makes you a walkin the walk kinda guy, is that, I would guess, ad revenue probably is needed to help in keeping these sites up. Its not like its extra money that you arent going to miss anyway. Just the impression I get. Good on ya.
Dont get me wrong, youre still a crazy gun-totting right wing asshole. But your ok in my book. :)
Good to see this attack on the 1st, well, being attacked. Keep up the good work!
but improved tremendously in the last six months BTW
That’s good news.
youre still a crazy gun-totting right wing asshole
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
For once, you and I agree on something! WOO HOO! Don’t worry man. I’ll spread this far and wide. ;)
Also, I do an Internet radio show and feel that your civil disobediance is definitely newsworthy. Would you be interested in an interview via Skype? My username is th2news. ;)
I’m not sure how this qualifies as civil disobedience
You’re not sure how intentionally breaking a bad law to call attention to the situation and asking politicians to do the same is civil disobedience?
Umm...because it’s us being civilly disobedient? Seriosuly, I don’t know what to say, this is a case where the actions are on their face the definition of the term.
See, McCain/Feingold has exceptions for individuals and there fore blogs, but if we sell ad space, then backing a candidate is akin to a campaign contribution. How to quantify that is the sticking point. What if I posted once a day about my chosen candidate? How much is that post worth? When do we all get in trouble for crossing the federal election rules on how much anyone can donate to a campaign? It is 1000 words? 50,000? A graphic saying “Vote for Bob, I think he’s great?” Is it five posts? 50? Where is the line and who decides?
McCain/Feingold has already crushed the free speech rights of candidates themselves with the 60-day gag order. The wording in the law is vague enough that bloggers could be targeted if they are endorsing a candiate and a judge decides that endorsement has a monetary value. For those two reasons alone, the act should be struck down.
Besides that, it also hinders the promotion of third party candidates, making the election system that much more unfair and might I add, un-constitutional.

Outstanding. If it weren’t for the fact that my computer skills pretty much begin and end with the power switch, I would offer to help you in any way possible.
