CNN’s response to Michael Moore, plus Manufacturing Dissent

Posted by JimK on 07/15/07 at 09:28 PM

CNN has responded to Moore’s response and it’s a doozy.  Way too much data to excerpt anything.  Just read the whole thing.  It’s a hell of a fisking.

While we’re here, check out this article about Manufacturing Dissent.  It’s interesting to note that the centerpiece of the film is a barrel full of evidence that Moore talked to Roger Smith (and not just that couple of minutes at a tax abatement meeting), which is of course something Moorewatchers have known for awhile based off my old appearance on The Larry Elder Show.

From the article about “Manufacturing Dissent”:

A former producer explained: “There’s a great story about how he is impossible to work for and he’s an impossible person. That’s the story most of us would like to do. I just don’t want to do it.”

Moore revealed that impossible nature of his on CNN.  And he’s promised to get even more obnoxious given the statement on MichaelMoore.com that he was going to be CNN’s worst nightmare.

Methinks Moore is letting his narcissism get the best of him.

"Again, Moore seems to be creating controversy where none exists.”

This phrase was used a lot by CNN. I like it… pretty much sums up most of what Moore does.

I enjoyed CNN’s response as well, it mirrored my personal opinions about the open letter. I was afraid that they wouldn’t respond, which would look, sorta bad for CNN.

Still, I think my fisking was better. ;-)

I liked the old interview you did.  It would be great if you could go on Larry King.

I also started out as a fan.  I am quoted in my local paper about how great he is and anyone who disagrees just doesn’t care about the world.  I also wrote a letter to the paper with the same sentiment.  Pretty embarrassing.  A few weeks after all that, I found this site.

He does seem to be unraveling at this point.  I think it’s his personal issues and struggles which will ultimately be his undoing.  He obviously struggles significantly with food and I think that it is getting to him because people keep bringing it up..so because of that and other things, he’s thrown himself into a diversion assault.  He’s trying to create this whole big thing that the media just won’t give him a chance.  And, the opposite is true.  The media has been rather favorable toward him on this one.

Nice to know!  Never be embarassed by old views. Political philosophy is a process, not a quest for a set of fixed answers.

Wow, so Michael pounds his pulpit all the harder, thinking that if he repeats his BS long enough and loud enough, it will be true because he says so?

Props to CNN for responding and providing verifiable factual support, but in terms of explaining Moore’s neurosis, they seem to have gone from reporting news to stating the obvious.

What’s the old lawyer saying . . .  when the facts are on your side, pound on the facts.  When the law is on your side, pound on the law.  When neither are on your side, pound on the table.

Does anyone here know how to see Manufacturing Dissent?  So far, it’s only been shown at film festivals that are nowhere near where I live.  Is it coming out on DVD or something? I hope so.

The site says that they’ll be announcing a DVD release soon
