Manufacturing Dissent - Uncovering Michael Moore

Mikey’s Motive

Posted by Lee on 06/20/07 at 03:58 PM

Hi gang.  Before I begin, let me preface this by saying that these are MY REMARKS and MY REMARKS alone.  They should not be assumed to be in line with or representative of anything that Jim might think.  Everyone got that?  Good.

As I have been sifting through the volumes of hate mail I have been receiving (mostly because Moore fans are too stupid to click the correct link) one point became abundantly clear.  As I read the newspaper articles about the incident with Jim and the $12 grand I saw the germination of this meme, and the current press and hate mail prove it.  There are a few variations on this meme but they all tend to follow a general pattern.

1) Michael Moore saved Jim’s wife’s life.
2) Michael Moore paid Jim’s wife’s medical bills.
3) The website was in danger of closing, and Moore paid to keep it up.
4) Jim has not thanked Moore.

This, my friends, is why Moore ponied up the $12k.  It had nothing to do with altruism or a sincere desire to help his fellow man.  Moore, being a narcissistic sociopath, doesn’t do anything unless there is some benefit to doing so.  Here’s the benefit.  The world now largely thinks that Moore not only saved the life of a guy who hates him, but he also gave money so the website could stay up.  It’s all complete bullshit, of course, but that’s beside the point.  The average person thinks this about Moore, and you can’t buy publicity like that.

Well, actually you can.  For giving $12k to a guy who needed it to pay bills, then telling everyone about what a great guy you are for doing so.

Let me just say this, too.  At the time we were having our server donation drive we had multiple large donations from famous people, including a television producer.  These gifts were given sincerely, some with promises that we would not reveal the source.  NOT ONE OF THESE DONORS has ever tried to capitalize on the fact that they helped the site out of a financial jam.  They, unlike Moore, have too much class for that.  They, unlike Moore, gave us the donations out of a sincere sense of altruism.

Moore fans, you’re being duped.  Don’t be a sheep, open your eyes and see how this vermin of a man is manipulating you.

But how do you really feel? :)

It’d be nice if Moore’s fans could be open to the idea that he’s not being honest to them.  More often than not though, it isn’t the case.  Most of the entries by them on this blog is proof enough of that.  Although every once in a long while, you do get a Moore fan that’s willing to have a serious, thoughtful debate with you.  It’d be nice to have more of those around.

Apparently, Moore is actually mainstream, and most of America agrees with what he says. If you believe TIME magazine, that is…

http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1635192,00.html

A few quotes:

Moore said that today “70% of the country agrees with [that sentiment]. They don’t support Bush or the war. I am now in the mainstream majority, which is weird; I don’t sit out on the edge, I sit here.”

See? He’s just like us. Here’s another quote:

Moore ticked off each of his films, and recounted the ways he believes the world has caught up with his sentiments. With 1998’s Roger & Me. he took on General Motors and no one listened, Moore said. Today, “they’re near bankruptcy.” With 2002’s Bowling For Columbine, he tried to take on the culture of gun violence, and this year there was another deadly school shooting at Virginia Tech. With 2004’s Fahrenheit 9/11, he took on a then-popular president and a then-popular war, and he said Bush’s polls have plummeted ever since.

So apparently, GM went bankrupt AFTER they laid off all those workers and closed all those factories in Flint, because Michael Moore’s film was just that powerful. And the reason the little Korean nutcase shot up Virginia Tech was because No One Listened to the Fat Cassandra.

Wait...here’s one last quote for you:

Moore thundered: “The documentary is a work of journalism; no laws are broken, it’s just an attempt by the Bush Administration to use our federal agencies as they’ve been known to do in the past to politically harass opponents.” Just goes to show, you can lead a radical into the mainstream but you can’t keep him quiet.

Well at least TIME magazine is keeping a level head.

I got a “free” subscription at BestBuy for 8 issues.  I canceled after the first two because I couldn’t stand them being in the bathroom.......

Leftist rag, IMO.

Good post, Lee.  And Jim’s wife is SMOKIN’!!!!

Then theres:

5) JImK must pay Michael Moore the $12,000 back
6) because
7) because, uh
8) because its really the Peoples - i.e. Mikey’s fans’ - money they had slated to, uh, rebuild New Orleans with

If Jim is pissed about the 12k he can gladly pay it back and get Newsweek to come and interview him and explain how he got played by Moore and how he rather shove the money back in his face than benefit from the comfort it provided him

/That would be some really, really manly stuff

//It would go explosively viral on youtube

I kinda enjoy the counter(culture)-clockwise daisy-chain/ left-handed circle-jerk initiated by the sycophants encrusting Mikey’s lying butthole in a Thinkers’ version of watercooler conversation, like I enjoy slowing down to ogle shattered, twisted, decomposing animals by the roadside.

Same smell. And still dead.

As Jim’s wife and the other beneficiary of Michael Moore’s $12,000 gift, I feel more than qualified to answer this comment.

1) Neither Jim or I are “pissed” about receiving an anonymous gift that greatly helped us on many fronts over a year ago. The gift was a blessing and we thanked our anonymous benefactor on this very site when we received the gift. There is even a screenshot of that letter of thanks in Sicko. When we found out our “guardian angel” was Michael Moore we thanked him several more times. I cannot understand why you feel either Jim or I are “pissed”.

2) Jim and I are hardly people of means. We simply do not have $12,000 - if we did have that type of disposible income we would not needed the a server fundraiser drive that started this chain of events so long ago. Please remember Moore sent us that money well over a year ago and it has long been spent on its intended purpose. Even if we did wish to pay Michael Moore back, we simply could not at this time.

3) While both Jim and I feel the way the anonymous gift was presented in Sicko was both inaccurate and a poor characterization of events, neither Jim nor I have said anything resembling “Moore played us”. Once again, we are both still thankful to Michael Moore for his generousity. It is entirely possible to both be emotionally grateful for one action and yet dislike the negativity generated by that same action.

I hope that my reply clears these matters up for you.

This is not unlike taking money from the Saudi Royals who helped to fund the 911 terroists.

The amazing thing is, you just compared Moore to terrorism financiers and me to a terrorist.

Wow.  I mean, the rest of your diatribe is stupid, but that was especially, preciously idiotic.

albaemo:

It is clear you have not followed this chain of events from the beginning so please allow me to clarify things for you as best I can. It would help if you could begin by referring to my response to Libertarian Librarian above. Jim and I received the bank check for $12,000 from a completely anonymous party well over a year ago. We tried very hard to discern who could have sent us the money but the party was completely untraceable. We had a guess at one point that it could be Michael Moore but there was absolutely no way to be certain. So we simply thanked the anonymous party on this site and then used the money as it was intended - to pay our insurance premiums for one year. It was only a couple of days before Sicko debuted at Cannes that we found out the money we received was from Michael Moore. And, again, we thanked him.

While it is a fact that both Jim and I have ideological differences with Michael Moore we bear him no grudge as a human being. We continue to thank him for his generousity now that we know this gift was from him just as we did when it was truly anonymous. Just as I said above, it is entirely possible to both be emotionally grateful for one action and yet dislike the negativity generated by that same action. Your allegory between our acceptance of a gift that turned out to be from Michael Moore and accepting money from people who support terrorism is entirely without merit and is in fact far more insulting of Mr. Moore than Jim or I have ever been. You are the one comparing Mr. Moore to someone who actively funds terrorism and murder, not us. Jim and I don’t hate Mr. Moore - we merely criticize his artwork and political views. There is a huge chasm between the two.

Furthermore, even if we desired to repay Mr. Moore, we simply cannot. As I have previously stated, we have long since spent the money Mr. Moore anonymously gave us and have no ability to pay it back. Besides, Mr. Moore clearly intended his anonymous donation to be a gift, not a loan - he characterized it as such in his movie. Do you truly believe it is in the interest of such charity to throw such a generous gift back in his face? How would that make either Jim or I better people?

In summation, I would remind you that Michael Moore gave us this generous gift to ease our financial burden while I attempt to deal with and recover from a chronic, very severe medical condition. Reactions like yours only serve to hurt me by adding untold amounts of stress to my life - stress that can greatly hinder my ability to recover. If you truly believe in what Michael Moore did for us, why are you trying to hard to undo the good he has done for me?

In short, sir, why are you attacking us?

Mr. Moore you should take the money back.

The neat thing is that, despite The Fact that Bushitler has turned the US into a warmongering Big Brother fascist oil state gleefully MickyD-frying the ozone belonging to the noble poor and downtrodden for sheer profit, Michael Moore may still spend $12K any effing way he pleases.

I know three uninsured Americans now who could use that $12,000 before things get worse.

I know 3 Americans who have $12 million in their pockets right now. Hey, one of them is Michael Moore. So whancha ask Mikey for some. But, nah, he’s more interested in exposing Jim as a hypocrite; a poor one at that. Now thats $12k well spent. That should heal the world by next week. Some champion of the poor Mikey is.
