Tax Incentives For Me, But Not For Thee
The Mackinac Center smokes out Michael Moore for taking a tax break he’s railed against.
I’m with Moore, actually, on the idea that industries should not get special tax cuts. And I do understand that, with millions of dollars at stake, the temptation is awfully hard to resist. But it takes a rare degree of hypocrisy to denounce people who are doing exactly what you are doing; to think that because you’re a liberal film-maker, your us of tax incentives should be immune from opprobrium.
This again highlights the problem of his Capitalism analysis. The industries that take money from government are part of the problem. But they’re doing what anyone would do in their situation. The problem is the political system that constantly doles out rewards to interests, that sees fit to micromanage the economy. The path we are on is not leading to less of that.

Short answer… yes. ;)
Here’s my problem with Moore’s newest screeds. He’s only making noise now because he needs to get attention so that we’ll all go out and use out capitalist system to spend money on his newly released DVD, which is of course against capitalism. All his recent letters have just been the same old shtick. “You didn’t see my movie in the theaters, what’s wrong with you? So go and buy it at Amazon today with money you’ve made at your capitalist job!” It’s just hypocrisy piled on top of hypocrisy, and I don’t know how many times I can say that without becoming the echo chamber that Moore is himself. I will admit I liked the letter about the Oscars and have a few unorthodox things to say about that, so maybe I’ll have a run at a couple of Moore’s new diatribes.
On the other hand… I *just* got my copy of Capitalism from Netflix. I’m hoping to put up first impressions sometime soon after I get a chance to watch it, so that will be coming eventually, as well as more in-depth reviews down the road.
So… yes. Things are coming. Have patience, Daniel-son. ;)
He’s a caricature of himself. It’s not just the way he looks (although that’s certainly a big part) it’s the way he behaves.
