First of all, I strongly doubt that most in the first world have any reason for not having health care if they want it.
The women being raped is a complete nonsequitor.
Third, the nature of capitalism helps the world far more than it hurts it. For example, you talk about avoiding purchasing from corporations, but those same corporations allow for trade over large distances that small business can’t do. This allows for goods that can be cheaply produced elsewhere to reach areas where they would be too costly to have otherwise, and cheaper goods all around.
Second, because of this global element of trade, the tendancy toward conflict goes down because countries depend on one another more for their economies to be stable. The reason that there WON’T be a military conflict any time soon between China and the U.S. is because the two economies are too dependant on one another. The reason that Libya was motivated to became a better government was to get rid of sanctions that were hurting its economy. The reason that many Iranians take issue with their current gov’t, which is a very concerning gov’t, is that they would like the profits that come with trade with the U.S. and other large economies. By making countries insular with only local business, then the economies don’t rely eachother and instead you have countries vying for control of areas of rich resources that will lead to invasion, such as Germany’s invasion of the Rhineland in 1936 for the rich coal deposits. When you have global trade, regional resources become global ones and can be used for the benefit of people around the world, not just people in the immediate area.

You go study the banking system. Wealth doesn’t ‘sit’ in banks… or anywhere really. Its gets loaned out to people who have ideas but not enough money to act on them. In return they pay the bank interest.. part of which goes back to the person who put money into the bank.

I didn’t say a THING about productivity directly, unitedpeople. My point was that corporations allow goods to be transfered cheaply, which means the consumers benefit. For example, there is not enough land in and directly around New York City to sustain that city. What food would be produced would be at high costs because of the demand for that food, and so people would either be spending large amounts for food or wouldn’t even be able to get food at all. However, if a company were to, say, ship a large quantity of food from farms in the midwest to New York City, they could sell it for relatively cheap because the cost for the food from the midwest would be lower and it was then transported in bulk, which would be cheaper than transporting small amounts of food, allowing the company to sell more food to the people of New York at or below the high price of food only from the New York area itself. In this way, not only does the corporation make money, but the people of New York City get cheaper food because a corporation helped them benefit from the lower costs and higher supplies of food in the midwest. Apply it to any other resource. Heck, the problem with oil is that we’ve developed a dependency on foreign oil (Canda being the biggest source) because it is CHEAPER to take oil from Canada and bring it to the U.S. than it is to try to get more supply in the U.S., and this helps consumers because they don’t have to pay as much.
You promote organic food, but that costs even MORE than regular food, and an organic-only solution would result in more people around the world starving because of the costs involved.
That is how the wealth is spread out.... mass production allows for specialisation, and that leads to lower prices which directly benefits consumers. Look at the standards of living a few hundred years ago versus now, and also realise that many of the steps forward that we benefit from now came from people doing something because there was a profit to be had. For example, hybrid cars are a step in the right direction for lowering gas use, and the whole reason there ARE hybrid cars was because a car company was motivated to develop them because they was a market for them to sell those cars to and make a profit.

What I’m asking is why isn’t this amazing wealth that capitalism creates isn’t spread out?

Why don’t you ask Michael Moore that everytime he sells a DVD at Walmart?

Lowbacca, I never advocated organic food as something that will stop world hunger. That is what I prefer and your own garden is a cheap way of producing your own food. I understand everything your saying about capitalism making it easier to move goods, how could I disagree with that! I’m just not focused on this. Please you must hear me, the wealth is not, I repeat, is not spread out. This isn’t a new problem, it’s a very old problem and I can’t believe you continue to argue it. Just someone at least admit that it’s a problem that humanity is not spreading the wealth and it would be enough for me to leave you guys alone!

Hagis, I don’t think Micheal Moore is a saint. Heck I agree with you guys that he uses twisted tactics! But don’t you think Moore is doing more good things then a lot of people in the movie industry?
