Also, a hero is someone who risks themselves to save or serve others.  A fireman that goes back into a fully-engulfed building to save a child.  THAT’S a fucking hero.  A cop that steps between a civilian and a drug dealer and takes a bullet.  THAT is a fucking hero.  A soldier that sticks his head in a cave knowing full well that at any moment a terrorist could blow it off...THAT’s a fucking hero.  A lying piece of crap that makes tens of millions of dollars by selling self-loathing and lies is not a hero, he’s a blight on society.

Just the fact that there are so many of these cheesy anti-Michael Moore sites proves how powerful his work is and how it resonates with people (and pisses off right-wing crybabies). You guys pick at a thousand little factoids in his movies and books but yet you never mention the greater points he makes. How the Bush family is in bed with the Saudis and give them special treatment and access. How they own so much of our country and economy. How Bush lies and distorts the facts to go to war. How two-faced the entire Bush administration is. How Americans (well, WASPs, anyway) have a disturbing, fetishistic obsession with weapons. Instead you claim his work is a lie because it�s only 95% true.

If you truly, honestly cared about the truth you would list all of Moore�s lies AND Bush�s as well. No sane, reasonable person could say that Bush is an honest man with a straight face. Unfortunately, your site is less an honest search for truth than a shameless, sad and uncreative propaganda device for the right. You guys are hypocrites, and you wish that your side had someone as creative, entertaining and engaging as Moore, instead of the self-righteous, corrosive, hate-spewing gasbags that dominate conservative radio and tv. Moore may be fat, but at least he�s not a freaking drug addict.

No offence, but are being paid to make a site like this? 

Surely you can’t seriously believe that Michael Moore is a bad person.  It’s been blatant for many years (he started on British TV years ago) that he was a champion of the working man, and - at worst - a man with a good heart. 

Regards the UK - of which I’m originally from - more than 80% were against the war and against the coallition with George Bush.

I don’t mean to ‘wind you up’, or get on your nerves, or offend you - but I have to tell you that Michael Moore’s views on George Bush are absolutely spot-on, and as an American you should be anticipating the day he gets chucked out the White House.  Maybe then the rest of the world will change back their opinions of America on the whole - i.e. stop thinking you’re a nation of greedy retards (which you’re not) led by a greedy, money hungry, big business owning tyrant. 

I’m a Scotsman, and a Mr Andrew Carnegie was one of many famous Scots to do well in America.  After he passed away, he gave all his money away (at the time he was comparable to Bill Gates these days in terms of wealth) and subsequently there is a library in almost every American state financed by Carnegie.  Could you ever even slightly envisage your current president care for his nation like that?

I would just like to say that michael moore would make a better president for your country as it is in a real shitty state right now.  Its definitely a hot debate that your trying to contend with, but unfortunately we will probably not live long enough to see the real atrocities that bush has created.  He (bush) did not win the election to become your president, even though he has some gun toting supporters, there wasn’t enough to elect him.  On the otherhand, Michael Moore is gaining a lot of support everyday.
If you can say that Michael Moore spins his information, i suggest you look at your president and his staff.  when you talk of spinning information, your president is the ‘chief editor’, with a following of bummbling idiots such as yourself.
The truth usually lies somewhere inbetween… and unless you are there to see it with your own eyes, or hear it with your own ears, you should be careful of what you believe.  It is your personal choice to believe what you believe, but the sooner you exit your own country & understand what is really going on outside of your american spun media, the better you are for it.  But when you do decide to leave to enlighten yourself, do me the favour, and try to listen to what other people say about you..."the common american”, and the situation of the world.  Take into the account that some people outside america have fallen victim to your countries media as well, and will boost your ego.  Although you will find that most people will not agree with your ‘way of thinking’ and probably just humour you until you leave the hostel.
But see it as you may, b/c it takes all types to make this world and interesting place, but when you have an idiot/moron as president of the most powerful country, it begins to get scary.

I did the youth hostel thing when I was a teenager.  When I go back to Europe now I stay in the finest hotels, and let Europeans serve me. Besides, I would be willing to bet that I have already lived in more countries than Brad Halstead will ever visit in his entire life.  I realize that Michael Moore has done more than anyone else to convince the rest of the world that Americans are ignorant, paranoid rednecks who know nothing about the rest of the sophisticated world, but the truth is quite different.  Christopher Hitchens, hardly a member of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, recently summed up this sentiment beautifully.

But speaking here in my capacity as a polished, sophisticated European as well, it seems to me the laugh here is on the polished, sophisticated Europeans.  They think Americans are fat, vulgar, greedy, stupid, ambitious and ignorant and so on.  And they�ve taken as their own, as their representative American someone who actually embodies all of those qualities.

This is where Moore is a master: manipulating his own image.  He is the very personification of everything he claims to despise about America and free market capitalism, and his fawning adherents somehow manage to blindly overlook this.

Too often we dwell on the negative.  All bloggers do it.  We hold up our hate mail and detracting comments and pick them apart, but the good ones often go unthanked.

I agree...we have to support Dubya for many reasons.  I don’t like his domestic policies, but we have time to fix that later.  Right now we’re fighting the kind of enemy that will fly a plane into a building full of people just trying to go to work.  Three times.  Four if you let ‘em.  The kind of people that routinely capture and kill hostages, sometimes hacking their heads off with a small knife.  The kind of people that don’t want to live peacefully with you, they want to destroy you because of what you aren’t.

Believe it or not, one of the previous hate mailers has written me back and actually included a little something of substance!  Bravo!  My hat is off to you!  The first half of your email is pure drivel, but the second half gets good.  Let’s look at the first half.

Real great response to my email.  But I’m not even going to start with that because me and you could just go back and forth forever.............I did want to write you though in resonse to your latest debates with Josh Ianuzzi.  First off, you only posted his first email on the main page..... and the 2nd one after that, which was the one he wanted you to post, you put a small link for it at the bottom of your post on the site.  So dont call him a fucking retard to try to cover up for you being a straight up pussy.....  I’ve seen that you’ve challenged him and being a friend of his well.....I wont say anything else except for good luck.

First off, about my “straight up being a pussy,” if you guys spend more than 30 cursory seconds here you would know that on long, long posts we routinely clip them into a main page section, and provide a link to a page where the full post can be read.  This is extremely common in the blogosphere, and it allows a wider range of content to stay on the front page, plus it helps modem users access the front page quicker.  When Josh responded I noted that I had updated the page, then stuck his second email (and his third) on the main page.  This has been done a million times in the past.  It had nothing to do with being a straight-up pussy tryin’ to be hidin’ dat wack shizzle, yo. 

I call him a retard because he has thus far been utterly incapable of making anything resembling a cogent argument.  He, like you and most other Moore hate-mailers, write in with inane criticisms of the site, talking about how wrong I am about issues, and about how easy it would be to debunk everything written here, het none of you ever do.  Well, now Josh has his dream shot.  I’m calling his bluff.  I want to see just how easy it is for him to “disproove” what I have written here.

Hey man, I have taken a look at your web site and am actually pretty disappointed in what I have seen. I am not upset with your opinions, because I understand there are tons of close minded conservatives in this country, but I must say you don’t even represent your arguments that well. If I had time I would love to sit around and proove every one of your points wrong, because frankly if you were so right you would recieve just as much attention, and become just as famous as Michael Moore.

I mean Al Franken wrote a book completely disprooving the likes of Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilley, and Bernie Goldberg. Why can’t you do the same? My little brother can make a website, so don’t get too big of a head. It all comes down to jealousy and fame. You are jealous of Michael Moore’s success and fame, and while I understand that you have opposing opinions w/ him, it is obvious that you are trying to capitalize on ripping apart his work. Why don’t you write a book and become just as famous as Michael Moore, and then when you’re done with that, do something original, instead of just criticizing the work of others.
Well have fun picking apart whatever I had to say, but just know that having the last word does not always mean you are right...it may be your solution to shutting people up and looking victorious, but anyone reading this (including yourself) knows that its not as simple as that. Unless you think this little letter will really hurt your image or feelings, I hope you man enough to post my opinions on your website. Josh, I’m going to give you a golden opportunity to “proove” me wrong.  I’m offering you carte blanche.  You write me a few paragraphs “prooving” some of my claims wrong and I will post them, unedited, on the front page of this site.  You said that you would “ love to sit around and proove every one of [my] points wrong,” well here’s your chance.  Go on, hit me with your best shot.  Or, if you don’t think you can actually “proove” me wrong, simply write back and say so.

What is up with you!

I really can’t be that bothered to read your web-site to determine weather you are American or not, but having browsed the first page, I’d of guessed that you are.

‘Only in America’ - says it all.  I’m a Brit and I find it hard to understand why you feel that it is acceptable to advertise the use of hand guns or any weaponry.  I’ve had this same conversation with many friends of mine, some also Americans, and each time the answer is the same, ‘ we don’t condone the use of handguns, just the right to have them’.  Constitution blah blah blah...................., the right to have them is the same as saying I want to use them.  Why do you need a handgun in the suburbs or in the city?  On a farm, okay but what cattle or fox do you intend to kill down the street. Opps sorry ‘block’.

Your constitution says that you have the right to have arms right?  Does that mean its okay hold WMD, nukes?  To me, yes a Brit, any gun is destructive and can cause destruction on a MASSive scale.  Why do you want to run the risk of waking up one night, hearing a noise down stairs, believing its a big bad burglar take your 9mm down stairs and mistakenly kill your own daughter coming home late?  Why do you want that, why do you want to kill/hurt people?

And don’t say you don’t want to hurt or maim someone because that’s exactly what you do want, every time you and your NRA and your republicans cry the rights to hold a gun.  Very few police here in the UK carry a gun and even fewer want to.  We had a case in Scotland where a man went into a school and killed dozens of innocent children under 8 years old.  Peoples lives have been ruined because this man, at that time legally, had the use of a hand gun.  After that we banned all hand guns.  True there are some still here illegally and there always will but why make it so easy. 

I would love to sit down with your president and ask him what he really believes is the right thing deep down.  I don’t dislike Americans, But all I have seen over the last decade is hatred and it saddens me.  I’m not anti-war but I am against lying to the people and we’ve been lied to.  The American people have been lied to even longer over Iraq / ‘Nam etc.

I just think its a shame.  But what can 1 guy from the UK do?

This has to be a first… a site critique from someone who can actually string two coherent sentences together.

I just took the liberty of logging on to your website, and to make a more long winded point succinct, I will not be returning.

I find it very amusing that you would stoop to the level of insult in order to “debunk” any claims that Mr. Moore has made.  Has he exaggerated various points in his novels and films?  Most certainly.  But this can also be said for any of our corporate media outlets disseminating the lurid assertions that the Bush administration has made concerning a Saddam Hussein/al Qaeda link, Iraqi WMD capabilities, etc.  Now, by saying that “Since ‘Mikey’ (as you like to mockingly refer to him) has sensationalized particular issues we can issue for pejorative calumnies in response.” An adage to keep in mind here is that disrespect for one’s opponents only sows the seeds of your own demise.  The USA learned that in ‘Nam, and we’re learning it today in Iraq.  You would be wise to learn it yourself.  You don’t win over any of Moore’s supporters by labeling them “idiots” or “vapid”.  You do it with hard evidence and an even tone. 

Now, before you write me off as some thoughtless Moore sycophant, I want to mention that I took the time to read various posts on your site.  That in and of itself should exonerate me from some criticism.  I have watched some of Mr. Moore’s films and found some points compelling and others preposterous.  I have read some of his literary work and found some of it persuasive and some of it rather mindless.  But I give each side an equal chance to “sell me” so to speak.  You’re site doesn’t necessarily prove that Moore is wrong, it simply raises doubts about his accuracy.  Your site is, at the very least, just as disrespectful of Moore as he is of George Bush.  By stooping to an comparable level of disrespect all you do is damage your own credibility.  If anything you should be aspiring to defeat Moore by surpassing him in the area of integrity and accuracy, not simply trading barbs with him because he thinks from the left and you think from the right.  I’m sure you think that you’re clever making fun of him for being fat when really you’re just diverting attention to inconsiquential body image matters because you really have nothing of value to say.  Pathetic and despicable.

Using the penultimate sentence in the previous paragraph to segue into my final point, I’d like to say that NO ONE deserves to be “silenced” for simply stating an opinion.  I do believe that that sort of thing was popular back in the 40’s, but after the Nazi’s and Japanese lost World War II, it sort of became passe to uphold those beliefs.  I don’t agree with Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, or any of the other neo-conservative, scumbag, blowhards but then again I don’t agree with many of the neo-liberals either.  I like to do this really moronic thing called thinking for myself.  It’s pretty apparent, at least from my standpoint, that your site isn’t devoted to fact checking Moore’s work and offering the truth, it’s simply a forum for you and other right thinking individuals to smugly pat each other on the back and bash someone for not agreeing with you.

Basically, you are no better than the person that you criticize, you run a shoddy website that should be disregarded by any person who actually reads books and is world-wise, and I will personally boycott your site and most likely urge those I know to do so as well.  I’m sure this means little to you because criticism doesn’t seem to mean much to Bush and his followers, but I’ll assure you that your behavior and that of your ideological brethren will NOT be tolerated for much longer.

You may repost and lampoon this as you see fit, it will only reinforce my belief that you have no appreciable honor and simply insult those who you can not capably debate with.  I do not desire a response from you, any such attempts will be summarily ignored.

A few points, if I may.  While this is light yeas ahead of the usual drivel I receive, notice that he (typically) does not include a single incorrect fact that I have stated.  He doesn’t imp[each any of my arguments, only whines about a straw-man characterization of the way I present it.  One the front page of the site right now are posts specifically refuting Moore’s claims about the creation of wealth in America, a refutation of MoveOn.org’s “silencing of dissent” claims, a fact-laden fisking of one member of Moore’s idiot legions, a statistical rebuttal of Moore’s “15 million hits” claim, a post showing how the San Francisco restaurant community is proving right one of my rebuttals of Moore’s claims about paying workers more money, and so on.  There’s lots of great stuff here, these are just a sampling of the stuff on the front page.  So this guy’s claim that we do nothing but insult Moore fans is, to put it bluntly, bullshit.

Also, I’ll guarantee you one thing:  this is not the first time he’s been to the site, nor will it be the last.  Oh sure, everyone claims they’ve only visited once, but that’s a load as well.  Sooner or later they all come back.  I’d be willing to bet money this guy is logging ion simply to see if I’ve posted his email.

Referring to my post earlier today regarding Wesley Clark’s despicable views on abortion, Kat Maslich had this to say.

SO BACKWARDS!  Do you know what you what you are talking about anyway?  Are you a woman.. probably not..right!  You nor any man have NO RIGHT controlling women and what they can do with their bodies. If you are a woman, you are PATHETIC and maybe you should go back to the 1950’s.  Wake up and smell the coffee. I am for Pro-choice in every way. I speak from experience. I was once pregnant!  Call me when you get some ovaries and a uterus.. maybe then we can talk!  You are probably for the death penalty too huh.. I find it truly fascinating that is how the tight conservatives think.. DON"T KILL THE BABIES.. but it is alright to put hundreds of people to death .  It is a fact and it’s also called HYPOCRISY.. oh, you might need a thesaurus or a dictionary for that word..

A few points to be raised here.  First, I am pro-choice.  However, I do recognize a HUGE distinction between being pro-choice and wanting to murder a full-term baby that has simply not been born yet.  As I said in my original post, only a radical left-wing extremist like Kat Maslich would fail to see the difference.  Secondly, only someone with as skewed a sense of morality as this dunce would be unable to see the difference between executing a convicted murderer and aborting a defenseless, innocent unborn child.  And finally, regarding the uterus comment, the day that women can generate sperm and thus impregnate themselves is the day that men have no say in the abortion issue.

Liberalism.  Disgusting, isn’t it?
