A pattern emerges

Michael Moore’s Sicko came out on DVD this week, and let me tell you, my inbox has been like a minefield of stupid.  It’s amazing how little people think for themselves these days, or are willing to look up the simplest of details.

Let’s do an exercise.  Let’s say there was this film. 

Hate mail, and Moore breaks the law

It’s been awhile since I got a funny hate mail.  I think this one qualifies, mainly due to the atrocious grammar and child-like rage.

Let’s break it down.  I shouldn’t say anything about the quality and veracity of Moore’s work, but this semi-human can call me a pig, get the facts of the events in Sicko wrong, and then tell me “FU.” Kung fu?  Fu Manchu?  What exactly am I supposed to fu?  Is his fu more powerful than my fu?  We must fight!  Only one may reign!  Let the fu fight begin!  Hey, that sounds like a great band name.  Fu Fight.  I should write that down.  ;)

Moving on:  This is an interesting peek into the way Mr. Moore does business on the web.

First, the simple facts: NewWest.Net had a story, with photos, about a protest outside the Jackson, Wyoming home of Vice President Dick Cheney. We soon became aware that the photo and the story were the lead feature story on MichaelMoore.com, but rather than follow the well-established protocol of publishing a short excerpt of the story and a thumbnail picture with a link back to our site, Moore’s site simply took the whole story as well as a full-size image. They did include attribution and a link, but still.

As we normally do in such cases, we sent a several e-mails to the site and to Moore asking that they remove the piece, or follow the proper protocol (and the law) by publishing just a snippet and a link. No response, and no action.

We have a policy here at MW...we quote and link as discussed above, unless the articles is A) very valuable information and B) is from a site that recycles links or destroys archives after a period of time.  If that policy is violated, it is a mistake, and not a matter of habit.  The other instance in which we may reproduce an entire article is with permission.  If someone asks, we take their work down, immediately.

I have no doubt that Moore’s Canadian web team (outsourcing rules!) did this without checking with him first, but the moment it is brought to someone’s attention, you should take care of it.  You know that he knows about it by now, as it seems to have been removed from his front page.

Neither Mike nor I are fond of copyright laws.  This is more than that, though.  When you take someone else’s news or blog items whole and put them on your site, you are simply robbing that writer of eyeballs and traffic, and it’s just rude if nothing else.  It is literally like me stealing the content of Sicko and putting it out under my name, taking away all the impetus to go see the real film.  Moore makes his money, to be sure, but he says that you seeing his films is more important than anything else.  He just wants you to see it.  So why is he (or his team) intentionally depriving someone else of that?  Note his lack of apology and any admittance of screwing up.  No matter how tiny the offense, Michael Moore will never, ever admit he did something wrong.  No wonder he hates Bush so much.  They’re exactly alike.  Half-wits, in way over their heads and unable to admit mistakes.

Roy, I’m honestly curious.  Can you give me examples of this lack of free speech you’re talking about?  Have the government death squads shut down the Daily Kos?  Has MoveOn.org’s headquarters been firebombed into oblivion?  Could a country with no free speech give Michael Moore the ability to make the largest grossing documentary in history criticizing the incumbent president only weeks before the election?

Our undereducated citizens who look to their elected leaders have been missled.  The administration has divided our country on purpose.  They have allowed religion into our government.  Our President makes “faith based decisions” The last person to speak the way Bush does was Hitler.  We are now the great invaders.  Believe me, I want nothing more than to live in a safe peaceful world, and I know we have to kick some ass sometimes! to do it, but to provoke a war and invade a country who h ad never even killed a US citizen is wrong.  During Desert Storm our media worked with the Iraqi Interior Ministry, they were in hotels in Baghdad, did you see the Iraqi army storm in there and behead one person, NO!  Now Americans are a target all over the world, and if you think this foreign policy of ours has done anything to make us safer, you are lying to yourself.  Let’s not forget that we helped Saddam fight Iran, and provided him with chemical weapons, which he turned and used on his own people.  I guess in Mike Moore’s movie when he showed Rumsfeld meeting with Saddam in 1980 to make that deal that was a lie.. I also suppose that when we gave weapons to the Mujahadeen Army (Osama and other rebel fighters fighting Russia in the Afghan/Russian war),since that was in Mike Moore’s movie that was a lie as well. 
Do you also realize the US is the largest petroleum consumer in the world.  As the oil reserves run low the need to control the oil runs greater.  What no one wants to admit is we invaded Iraq for the sole purpose of controlling the oil fields.  The only problem was the idea that we would be welcomed with roses and parades was horse shit.  Even though Saddam was a tyrant, he was their tyrant.  Not a “western infadel” like we have put in power now.  The middle east population would take a million Saddams over one of our American leaders telling them what to do.  We don’t understand Islam, we don’t care to understan Islam and the rest of the world sees us as ignorant Americans, who are now the “Great Invaders.” This war has nothing to do with 9/11 and when Bush was making a case for it he compared the two.  It was a lie, it still is a lie, and to waste your time trying to make a liar out of Mike Moore i! s exactly what this spin doctor administration wants you to do.  Stop wasting your time arguing with eachother over partisan politics and start finding the leaders who will get us out of this mess and make America the great respected nation we once were.  Support our troops, they should be home securing our swiss cheese borders.  While we are invading Iraq, our country is being invaded everyday, by illegals(not immigrants) just illegals.  I hope they don’t have a certain date that the ones that are here pick up the weapons they have amassed off the streets and just start killing everyone in sight.  We had a 1 week warning about Hurricane Katrina and couldn’t handle that, heaven forbid that we wake up on a sunny Tuesday morning with a bunch of radical muslims running around with machine guns blowing up apartment buildings.  Wake UP AMERICA!!!!!

The items you mention about Israel and Tony Blair are ADVERTISING.  Someone went to Blogads and purchased advertising space to put their message on this website.  Short of out and out rejecting an ad, we don’t have any say as to their content, and frankly, being proud capitalist whores, we’ll pretty much let anyone buy ad space for just about any message.  Do you grasp this?  It’s not OUR message, Will, it’s SOMEONE ELSE’S.  Understand?  Wipe the drool off your chin, it’s dribbling onto your copy of Dick and Jane at the Seashore.

Secondly, I couldn’t care less what 2/3 of the world thinks.  You seem to believe in the malleability of right and wrong, as though if enough people disagree with something then this inherently justifies that belief.  The vast majority of people in the world believe in some kind of supreme being.  Is this inherent proof that there is indeed a Creator of some kind?  Or does the number of people who believe in a supreme being in no way validate the existence of one?  (Sorry, Will, that kind of thought is WAY too advanced for someone as dim as you.  Let’s try something more your size:  “Brown is the color of poo.")

Here’s my personal view:  the Palestinians (i.e. displaced Jordanians) are terrorist vermin whose sole reason for existing is to destroy Israel and wipe Jews off the face of the Earth, and therefore Israel is fully within its rights to retaliate to any degree it sees fit.

Regarding my trip to Australia, I was born here, I’m a citizen, and I have family here.  I came for a visit.

As far as our support for George W. Bush goes, well, if you haven’t grasped it by now then there’s not a whole lot of point in re-explaining myself, is there?  Not to worry, Michael Moore will always be there to do your thinking for you.

“Look everybody!  I prove my own sensibility by Actually criticizing someone I respect!” Only a Republican could think that doing so is a miracle of self-effacement and even-handedness.  “Look, I’m breaking with the faith for a moment to be reasonable!!  Yeah me!!” Now back to our regularly scheduled programming of relentlessly bashing all things left.

A Republican who is Less of a douchebag than yourself…

Okay, for people like Bob who are too stupid to understand and comprehend fundamental English, allow me to retort.  If you’ll go back and re-read my fisking of Mikey’s message (see here) you can see that he essentially portrays anyone other than him as being some kind of mindless, vapid Bush drone who agrees with everything the president does.  According to Mikey, anyone who voted for Bush is a Hannity/O’Reilly/Limbaugh fan, who blames everything on Clinton and hates all Democrats.  This characterization, like everything Mikey writes, is horseshit.  The three contributors here at MOOREWATCH all voted for Bush because he was the most desirable of the two candidates available to us at the time.  (I discussed this very thing at the end of my fisking.) Mikey most likely voted for Kerry (he said he was going to) not because he agreed with everything Kerry did, but because he thought Kerry was a better choice than Bush.

Unlike Mikey, however, the three of us, both here at MOOREWATCH and on our own personal blogs, have been remarkably critical of Bush when he deserved it, praised him when it was warranted, and generally tried to keep as intellectually honest a position as possible.  Hell, we’ve even agreed with Mikey from time to time, right here on this very blog.  Conversely, Mikey has not (to my knowledge) every uttered a single thing in praise of anything Bush has ever said or done.  When we caught Saddam, he denigrated it.  He has spoken ill of the first fledgling democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan. In short, as I said in my post, no matter what Bush says or does, Mikey will find an angle to decide that the opposite is true.

Look, we hardly ever agree with Mikey, and I don’t have any doubt that he agrees with virtually nothing that Bush has done.  That being said, when it comes to intellectual honesty, we’re way ahead of Mikey. We write because of what we believe, no matter whether it’s for or against Bush. Mikey writes what he does because there are millions and millions of simps the world over who are willing to pay good, capitalist money for anything that knocks Bush.  We provide opinion, Mikey provides a product.  Who has the corrupting influence of money and who doesn’t?

We don’t define our mission as being against Moore.  We keep an eye on him, and provide a repository for information to debunk his lies and distortions.  If Mikey came out tomorrow and wrote a message extolling the power of the free market to enrich people’s lives we would not only agree with him, we would commend him for it.  If Bush came out tomorrow and said that the government should provide everyone with free medical care, Mikey would somehow twist it into being some kind of conspiracy theory to enrich Halliburton and Israel.

Michael Moore is a one-note song, and you, despite your claims to the contrary, are most definitely a bigger douchebag than me.

Yes, absolutely, this is exactly right.  If Blair is ousted with a vote of no confidence, and the replacement PM wants to pull out British troops, Britain is fully within its rights to do so.  I think it would be incredibly short-sighted of them to do so, but ultimately that’s their decision to make.

One other point: notice the name on the email address, “marcsterchief.” I’m willing to bet that the author of this email is named Marc, and he loves playing the violent video game Halo, the main character in which is named Master Chief.  So here we have just the latest example of some anti-war fruitcake who loves to “play” war, yet doesn’t actually have the stomach for taking part in one.

This is unfortunately all too typical of the mail we receive about matters like these.  I have posted COUNTLESS news reports on the massive failures of the socialist healthcare model.  This is not to say that our system is without problems; it is most certainly riven with problems and I have said so a million times.  I just don’t believe that going to the socialist model of Canada or Australia is the proper solution to the problems that we have in this country.

Also, note how Geoff regurgitates the same old tired arguments, undoubtedly because he gets the majority of his information from people like Michael Moore.  Nobody in America who gets shot (or suffers from any other life-threatening emergency) is denied care.  It’s against the law.  Regardless of ability to pay, if you need emergency care you receive it, period.  As far as Australia’s gun control laws go, you might want to check which one of our two countries has higher rates of violent crime, and which has rising crime rates.  (Here’s a hint, Geoff.  The answer to both of these questions is not America.) But if you’re prepared to pay a 50% tax rate to finance your health care system, and if you have no problem living in a country with higher rates of rape, assault, and burglary than we have here, then that is entirely your prerogative.

As far as “being like America” being the worst thing you could say about a policy, I understand that completely.  It is my fervent hope that when the bleeding heart leftist morons in this country begin to talk about socializing our health care system, we can point out the folly of that idea by saying “You don’t want to end up like Canada, do you?” (Canada’s health care system is going bankrupt.  It works like a charm.)

If you want to actually learn about the significant failures of the socialist health care model, there are literally hundreds of posts on this site.  The same goes for the success of gun control in developed nations.  Though I have absolutely no doubt that you have no desire to actually learn about these things.  You’d much rather shove your head up Michael Moore’s ass and feel morally superior to the knuckledragging gun-crazy lunatics in the US of A.

Meet Thom Hartmann

In the three years that we’ve been writing MOOREWATCH we’ve received a number of interview requests.  Some we have accepted, some we have not.  So it was with great interest that we today received an invite to come on the Thom Hartmann Show.  Clicking the link you are presented with a professional website, with a picture of an elegant looking gentleman, holding his eyeglasses in a scholarly manner, beaming a pleasant smile to the world.  Here’s how he’s described on the site: “Thom Hartmann is a Project Censored-award-winning, best-selling author, and the host of a nationally syndicated progressive daily radio talk show, heard across America via the Sirius Satellite Radio system, on radio stations coast to coast, in 29 states on CRN, and worldwide on RadioPower.org, weekdays from Noon to 3 PM Eastern Time.” Okay, so he’s a leftie.  I’ve never heard his show, but Jim (who is primarily the public face of MOOREWATCH) has gone on adversarial radio shows before, so it’s not like we run and hide from this stuff.  Based on his website, knowing absolutely nothing about Thom Hartmann otherwise, I’d say he seemed like an intelligent guy who could probably engage in some good discussion on the issues of the day.  Now, compare that public persona with the email we received.

And Michael Moore?  Who cares about Michael Moore?  All you and were ilk do is scream about Michael Moore.  It must be exhausting.  Do you really think he’s any sort of threat?  Michael Moore had the balls—in just one example—to stand up to big tobacco in the past and that’s somehow wrong; trying to enlighten people on the dangers of smoking—do you have any idea what they put in cigarettes?  It may not have made much a dent; the industry’s still thriving… but if you’re going to go after anything, go after his naivete.  I mean, what’s up with you guys?  Is corruption something you believe in?  Stifling people’s voice?  Are you against diplomacy?  Is that something you subscribe to?

I’d rather be a “liberal” than a conservative any day… if it weren’t for “liberals,” you guys would still be lynching blacks in the south—because that’s all you’ve proven yourself to be over the past couple of years: violent, greedy, intolerant, misogynstic racists.  Bush has lied to you from the very beginning, but you’re running around with your head up W’s ass—“oh we’re liberating Iraq,” “oh the world changed since 9/11!” “Oh don’t vote for Kerry!  Otherwise you might die! I don’t care to be upset over this current state of affairs, I want peace, I want people to get over their differences and work towards good—but is that happening?  I’m sick of it.  And I wish I could hop on to your bandwagon, but I can’t.  I don’t want to think about what happened on 9/11… because I’m a “liberal” I somehow don’t care about the 3,000 that died that day?  How insulting.  Because Sheehan stands up to the U.S. Government, somehow she’s got some sort of “liberal” agenda and she should be ashamed of herself; for practising her rights to a peaceful assembly, for using her voice.

Well shame on you.

I’m all for your freedom of speech, I’ve been doing nothing but listening to what you and your ilk have to say—but yet you’re talking loud, but you haven’t been saying anything contstructive at all.  Stand up for something good, direct your energies towards something good, not bashing a mom in mourning.

1) We are all unquestioning, unwavering Bush lovers, who support everything the president does.
2) We want to silence Casey Sheehan’s mother and prevent her from having her say.
3) We believe in smoking, and “go after” Michael Moore because he’s gone after tobacco.
4) We believe in corruption and abhor diplomacy.
5) We’re violent, greedy men who hate women and would gladly be in the South lynching black people.
6) We’re proudly “bashing” a grieving mother.

Bob, I’m going to publicly issue a challenge to you.  I utterly defy you to substantiate, using specific quotes from this website, a single one of the assertions listed above.  You’ve obviously got us all figured out; you know us so well that you felt the need to compose this little missive.  It should be quite easy for you to back up all six of these claims.  Are you up to the challenge?  Or are you exactly like every other gutless liberal who comes to this website, reads one post, and then writes in?

Here we see pure left-wing idiocy in action.  Cindy Sheehan prostitutes the memory of her son, and becomes the darling of the liberal media in the process.  We, rightfully, point out the contradictions in her story, and quote the rest of the boilerplate left-wing lunacy (Israel comments, etc.) which the mainstream media somehow never manage to quote.  After all, it would blow their beatific portrayal of her as nothing but a grieving mother, when she’s nothing more than the hood ornament for the entire well-organized left-wing machine.  But, to a liberal, this is “fear.” We’re comment on her story not because she put herself in that position, but because we’re “scared” of her.  Of course, being scared of her implies that she has something we need to fear in the first place, which our recent posts on the subject have shown clearly that we do not.
